About United Tribes Technical College

Located in Bismarck, ND, United Tribes Technical College serves to provide an outstanding education to the Native American people of this region and around the country. For over 39 years, UTTC has served over ten thousand American Indian students from more than 75 federally recognized Indian Tribes across the nation. In addition to American Indians, the college welcomes and serves students of all backgrounds.

United Tribes Technical College is a regionally accredited institution, having achieved accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition, UTTC is the first tribal college in the nation authorized to offer full on-line degree programs. The college is considered a 1994 Tribal Land Grant Institution.

The College was founded to provide a community in which Indian people can acquire an education and obtain employment. Programs which have been added over the years have kept this initial purpose in mind, providing not only occupational education and training but also individual and social skills in a culturally-relevant setting, with an emphasis on children and families.

ACADEMICS

United Tribes Technical College offers 20 Associate of Applied Science Degrees and 8 Certificates. AAS Degrees are completed in four or five semesters (about two years) depending on program requirements and Certificates usually take two or three semesters.
The curriculum and training matches that of any tribal or community college or technical school in the country.

Other Important Information

Applicants should not plan on employment in the United States or financial assistance from the college for meeting educational expenses.

All college tuition and fees are due and payable in full one year in advance.

Scholarships:

There are many scholarship opportunities available to students each semester. The following is a list of some of the scholarships available.

- American Indian College Fund (AICF): Scholarships are available to students during the fall and spring semesters. New and returning students are encouraged to apply. The Financial Aid Office will determine the opening and closing dates of the AICF application process each semester.

- ND Indian Scholarship: This scholarship is offered to students who are ND residents. To be considered a ND resident you must have lived in ND for 12 consecutive months and have a valid ND driver's license. Deadline: June 1st.

- North Dakota Space Grant Consortium: An affiliate of NASA and offers scholarships to students pursuing degrees in science, math, nursing, computer information technology tribal environmental science and engineering. Scholarship amounts vary. Financial Aid Office will determine the opening and closing dates.

- Indian Health Services (IHS) scholarship: For students in health related fields. Deadline is usually the end of February.

- Athletic Scholarships: For men's and women's basketball and cross-country teams. All athletes must maintain a full-time status and good academics.

- Presidential Scholarships: For returning students demonstrating financial need and have maintained a good academics. There is no application to apply.

- "Opportunities in the Making" scholarships: "Opportunities in the Making" student scholarship campaign is one way that the community and friends are able to assist our students by offering scholars
