Edward Waters College is a private, historically black college whose future is lined with pride, growth and success. Edward Waters College, the oldest private institution of higher education in the state of Florida, was founded in 1866 specifically to educate newly freed slaves.

The College’s current enrollment is 839 students, with approximately 51% of the student body is male, 49% female, and over 90% of the students rely on financial aid.

Today the College stands as a beacon of hope for many young people who might not otherwise have an opportunity to enter higher education. Edward Waters College prepares students for careers in teaching, technology, research, religion, politics and other leading fields of today and in the future.

THE ACADEMIC PROGRAM


The Edward Waters College (EWC) Academic Program is designed to provide a high-quality undergraduate twenty-first century education to all students that will consist of a reinvigorated, practical, and engaged liberal education with comprehensive academic support services for all.

The EWC liberal arts education is designed to provide our students with a program that is rigorous, inclusive, pragmatic, and socially responsible. Edward Waters College is striving to become an “intentional” institution that will employ resources and align its practices in purposeful ways to provide a powerful liberal education to all students.

The academic program at EWC recognizes that college students come to this institution from an extremely diverse array of national, racial/ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds. As such the teaching and learning environment is specifically calculated to focus on the kinds of learning that students need to be successful in a complex world. The goal of the academic program is to produce students who are intentional learners capable of adapting to new environments, integrating knowledge from different sources, and who will be lifelong learners.

DEGREES
Edward Waters College awards the following degrees in 15 degree-programs:

Bachelor of Arts: A Bachelor of Arts degree is awarded to a student, who completes the requirements for a major in Communications, Music, Political Science, Psychology, Religion and Philosophy, Criminal Justice, and Sociology.

Bachelor of Science: A Bachelor of Science degree is awarded to a student who completes the requirements for a major in Biology, Elementary Education Computer Information Systems, Physical Education, Physical Education/Recreation, and Mathematics.

Bachelor of Business Administration: A Bachelor of Business Administration degree is awarded to a student who completes the requirements for a major in Organizational Management (CLIMB) and Business Administration.

Financial aid:
Edward Waters College, a four-year, private institution, is dedicated to providing students with as much financial aid as possible through scholarships, grants, student employment and student loans.
Edward Waters College offers a comprehensive financial aid program for eligible students needing assistance to finance the cost of their post-secondary education. The College presumes that the primary responsibility of financing a college education rests with the student and the student’s family.
