The Institute of International Relations (ISRI) was established by Decree № 1 / 86, 5 February, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Mozambique with the mission to train diplomats and experts in international relations.

During the more than 20 years of existence, the ISRI graduated hundreds of students and dozens sent abroad where they formed at different levels. The demand for tickets and tables produced by ISRI by public and private, domestic and foreign has increased due to the solid preparation of teachers and curricula appropriate to the momentum gradually.

His appearance is part of the efforts in this direction encentados by then Foreign Minister and former Chief of the Republic of Mozambique. E. Excellency. Joaquim Alberto Chissano. Fits the Subsystem of Higher Education in the context of national education. The ISRI is a legal person of public law and autonomy of scientific, educational, administrative and disciplinary action being their actividaes nationwide.

The ISRI established itself within the country and the region as a leading institution in the field of international relations and diplomacy (global, regional studies, international politics, foreign policy and diplomacy).

The ISRI publishes its profile as a result of 20 years of experience. This profile describes a vision of ISRI as a whole. The profile includes an outline of the historical evolution of ISRI, the program chairs of taught and research areas. Also it includes a brief profile of the academic faculty of the various chairs of the Department.

Established in 1986, ISRI established itself as one of the leading institutions in the country for the study of international relations (and study areas). The ISRI has made pioneering contributions in promoting the study of international relations as an academic discipline in Mozambique and to develop knowledge and understanding of international relations and interdisciplinary perspective. The ISRI is also the first institution in the country to promote "study areas" and develop expertise in various countries and regions worldwide.

The ISRI is the need felt in the country from which to promote the study of international relations was important to train men and women in the interpretation of global developments in the economic, social and political.

Currently there are () in ISRI teachers, including () PhD, () MA and () Licensees. However, it is estimated that the ISRI require () Teachers for the various chairs.

The faculty members of ISRI have contributed to the development and dissemination of knowledge in international relations, not only through his lecturing and supervision of research but also through research and publication of books and newspaper articles. Members of the Department has also been invited as consultants several Governmental and non-government for its specialized expertise and they have been involved in discussions on radio and television programs on issues related to international relations.

The faculty members participate in several national and international seminars on important aspects of the study areas, inter-country and on issues related to the study of international relations as an academic discipline.

The lecturing / research in ISRI is conducted in four departments covering two geographical regions of the world as well as theory and functional aspects of international studies. These departments are:
