Although born late (1983) compared to its past scientific and cultural renowned University of Bejaia, a public institution of higher education under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, was able to grow and pass from a staff of 205 students taught by 40 teachers in its openness to a workforce of 22 792 students and 698 teachers in 2006. This growth could be achieved with a judicious diversification of its industries and options.

The University of Bejaia consists of seven Faculties (Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Sciences and Faculty of Nature and Life.). It unfolds in two main sites (and Targa Ouzemmour Aboudaou).

The University of Bejaia has a central library multidisciplinary, an appendix operation since 2002 and a library on campus Aboudaou opened in 2003. It covers over 35 specialties with a background in documentary work than rich and 146 000 volumes, 2500 titles of theses and dissertations, 300 journal titles, 79 current subscriptions and about 400 CD ROM.

Diversification of industry training, exploitation of research and transfer of skills allowed him to be among the best performing universities in the country. Given the growing importance of IT in the areas of everyday life and its wide use in all sectors (technology, economics, medicine etc ....), The opening of this specialty has become indispensable.
