University description (as per official university website)

Result of political reasons, the University of Djibouti was established by Decree January 7, 2006. By building a full University, the Djibouti authorities have so wanted to act in a world constantly changing and evolving needs of society Djibouti. In addition, the University of Djibouti's mission is to develop locally in higher education, general education and technical training available and continuing education. Our university has chosen from its inception to the LMD (Licence-Master-Doctorate) whose main objectives are to mobility of students and teachers while ensuring the harmonization of diplomas and access to knowledge at all. The University of Djibouti, must also contribute to the research, production and scientific and educational meet its influence in the training of public service, parastatals and private.

In view of these missions and by browsing the different sections of our site you will find that our university is young but she does not lack ambition with teams of teachers and researchers heavily involved, a very technical and administrative staff mobilized to offer our students the best conditions for study and research. In our university, we give special importance to the "multipolarity," the goal we pursue is to facilitate access for all to quality higher education. For this, we have for this academic year 2008-2009, more than 2,500 students enrolled in more than 54 fields of study open to the level of our four training components.

In addition, the University of Djibouti is now an environment conducive to the implementation of the reform of the baccalaureate as the Ministry of National Education and Higher Education is preparing to implement. With the experience gained by its teachers and researchers through its administrative teams, the University of Djibouti is now able to complete required educational innovation and to continuously strengthen its contribution in the socio-economic development. In this context, the University of Djibouti for its strong teaching skills (more than one hundred teachers and researchers from various disciplines in science, humanities and social) proposes to develop new training to ensure consistently high quality education based on modern technology to address the requirements of higher education in the world today. We also plan to complete our annual structures by creating new channels to better meet the changing economic and multisectoral investment, generate employment.
In terms of research, our university is conducting discussions and actions aimed at raising awareness of the potential of Djibouti and the region. It was possible at first, to develop thematic programs of support for scientific research (3rd meeting of the Regional Network on Environment (HoAREC / N), to develop basic and applied research in partnership with national, regional and international priority in line with the needs of our society and the development priorities for the country. In addition, these axes, due to their interdisciplinary skills and therein attèlent, also generate benefits for the region.

Fort intake generated by all our experience and in accordance with established program for the new academic year, we would now allow the University of Djibouti can afford to meet its challenges in measuring the position it has to play in the socio-economic development. We also hope to engage with confidence in her prospects in the future and as part of the reform of the baccalaureate.

Welcome to the University of Djibouti.

The President of the University
