UNEJ is located in Jember, a small tropical town to the southeastern part of East Java Province. It is surrounded by a number of plantations mainly tobacco, cocoa, coffee and sugarcane. There are two major communities living in Jember, Javanese and Madurese, which have very unique cultures. The two ethnics characteristic and plantation area comprise a beauty of singular combination of scenic wonders and cultural heritage. In such a wonderful scenery, UNEJ is situated and developed. Jember lies between the two major world wonders, Ijen crater and Mt. Bromo. Ijen crater is the world's highest acid caldera which is called smoking volcano. Its caldera is surrounded by coffee plantation. Mt. Bromo is noted for its spectacular sunrises, and majestic views across to Semeru volcano in the south. Twenty kilometers to the southeast of Jember, we can see Meru Betiri National Park, the only habitat for Javanese tiger and the richest botanical medicine resources. They create an amazing environment for wonderful life in Jember.

Running more than 50 study programs in the field of agriculture, engineering, social science and humanities, natural science, medical, and education, UNEJ creates more choices for fulfilling student interest. Some of them establish a specific study and research that only available in UNEJ such as studies of local tribes culture (the study of Tengger, Osing and Samin) All academic staffs graduated from both national and overseas leading universities, such as Europe, America, Japan and Australia. They are internationally recognized in research and teaching activities. Multicultural UNEJ member makes foreign students can adapt the culture more easily. Moreover, Jember community which is well known as smiling people also very welcome to foreigner to live around them.

Studying at UNEJ
Education at UNEJ, sets strong emphasis on encouraging and stimulating students to be creative and independent thinkers. To promote this attitude, the academic curriculum focuses on a greater extent on analysis and problem solving in individual and project groups, as well as on writing reports and papers. The students should be able to work independently and to manage the time in order to complete assignments and course work according to schedule.

The lecturer designs the material, while the student will filter, absorb and learn how to apply information. The role of the lecturer is therefore to assist, inspire and guide rather than merely dictate a series of lectures. It will encourage students to express their individual opinion.
To support studying process, UNEJ has a range of academic facilities such as modern library facilities, research centers, Internet connections, conference room and video/data projection equipment provide an interactive teaching environment, campus center, and language center. All faculties fully equipped laboratories, workshops and studios allow practical engagement in every field of study.

Student Life
Accommodation and Transportation

Cheap and reasonable rental accommodations around campus area are available for students. Student may rent a house with their friend or family, alternatively student may also rent a room for him/her alone.
Jember located in south eastern East Java province, student who want traveling to other city may use intercity bus from Tawangalun bus station or train Jember train station. In the city there are various public transportation modes, such as bus, public car, Pedi cab (becak) and taxi. Students go to campus on foot, by bikes, by motorcycles, and by those public transportations.

Support and Welfare

UNEJ Medical Centre is open for student and staff from 08.00-21.00 in working day including Saturday.
Student counseling service located at UNEJ Campus Center provide personal problem consultation. Student advisory centre that is located at the same place offer various soft skill training and information for jobseeker.
International office is the entry point for international students and its staff will assist students in applying for the studies, visa application, arranging suitable housing. The staff of International Office are committed to making your study duration at UNEJ as comfortable as possible. International Office, therefore, facilitates International students throughout their studies at UNEJ. International Office has Front Desk at a prominent location in the campus area, at which students can consult to the staff regarding to their stay and studies. Leisure and social activities

Sport: UNEJ has its own stadium as sport center on campus. Students can participate in a sport individually or in groups. Professional instructors are available to assist the students.
Student Association: UNEJ supports student associations based on hobbies and interest. They organize and participate many studentís events to explore and develop their talents and interests, such as competition, contest, training, and conference.
Off campus activities: Besides studying, students are encouraged to have off campus activities and to make interaction with surrounding community in Jember area. Here are some ideas to get started: Shopping centers, restaurants, and street vendors which provide foods and drinks around campus, 24-hour Internet corners, Annual Traditional 30 km Long March Festival which involves around thirty thousands participants, Annual Jember fashion carnival, An 18-hole golf course with complete services and facilities, Swimming pool located on high land of Argopuro Mountain. For more adventures, there are lot of thrilling activities around Jember: mountain hking on Mounts Argupuro, Bromo, and Ijen; surfing on Plengkung Beach as one of the best surfing places in the world; camping ground to Merubetiri, Baluran dan Alas Purwo National Parks which are the habitat of wild bull (Boss Javanicus), Indian peacock (Pavo cristatus) and Asian wild dog (Cuon alpinus )
