International University was founded on September 9, 2002 and was officially approved by the Royal Government of Cambodia on December 16, 2002 (Sub-Decree 122).

International University is well known among the students and to the Public as the pioneering and biggest private University in Cambodia that provides medical education in addition to other courses such as Social Sciences, Humanities, Science, Languages etc.

In its first academic year, IU received about 375 students, 265 of whom enrolled for medical course at the Faculty of Health Sciences and the rest for the Bachelor of English Literature. In the following academic year, IU launched its first graduate course in Public Health and Civil Engineering which were then inexperienced in Cambodia. In Academic Year 2004-2005, IU received 1250 students in five faculties among whom about 800 were medical students. In the same year, the first batch of students were prepared to graduate from the Faculty of Health Sciences in Medicine, Faculty of Social Sciences and Journalism in Public Health, Faculty of Sciences and Technology in Civil Engineering.

Another significant accomplishment, IU has made with rapid growth of students, is the University's completion of the five-story building of the Faculty of Health Sciences in its Satellite Campus in Phnom Penh Thmey. The building contains 14 laboratory rooms, 10 classrooms, 1 executive conference room, and 1 International Conference Hall which is able to accommodate about 340 participants each session.

Presently, the University is laying foundation for the University's Seven-story teaching hospital building which would accommodate about 250 beds. The project is expected to be completed by the year 2007.

Academic Programs

International University is composed of seven faculties and one post-graduate institute with over thirty (30) departments that offers more than forty (40) degree programs ranging from associate to doctoral degrees. All courses and their contents are headed by professionals and competent academicians. Khmer, English and French are languages adopted for knowledge-transfer by lecturers upon necessity.
