Message from the Rector

Dear visitor,

With the pleasure to greet you welcome to our University that from March of this year's Laureate Group, unified the American College and University institutions America, to form a single Center for Higher Education, under the name Universidad Latina de Costa rich with a new look.

This transformation process is aimed at enhancing the strengths of the two most prestigious private universities in Costa Rica, in order to strengthen academic offerings. With this important process, we became the largest private university in the country with high quality educational solutions, extensive facilities, student services, extracurricular activities and presence in the seven provinces.

This union allows us to offer programs that currently provide each of the universities, exchange of best practices that result in the strengthening of academic quality, the ability to graduate from an even stronger institution that gives them access to better jobs through to its prestige and academic quality.

Furthermore, this integration of our students enjoy the benefits provided by both institutions such as: foreign exchange, double degree, accredited programs, graduate programs of excellence, constantly updating educational technology, teacher training, cultural and sports activities and leadership of American University and American University.

The regular students and graduates of the Universidad Interamericana de Costa Rica Universidad Latina or may decide to choose the title of the institution or the new university. The title is issued at the end of the curriculum will remain valid as supported by this new institution, which is part of Laureate International Universities, a network that has a valuable reputation in the twenty countries where it operates.

The new university will offer a greater number of campuses and venues to choose the one that best suits their interests: Campus Hall, Campus San Pedro and 10 seats more. The cost of tuition and fees will not be affected, the academic structure continues its Rector, Dean, Director and Teacher, as well as its curriculum and accreditation.

Research

THE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF RESEARCH OF THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY

Since early this year is running the University System of America University Research: An ambitious makeover, completely new private university in the context of Costa Rica, to develop and promote the research culture at all levels within the university community, from class actions teachers that encourage critical and analytical mind in the daily practice of students, to research projects at different levels of scope and time.

The research is a facet of university activities to be developed and embedded in the teaching and learning in a cross-transparent so that the university can not only become a benchmark of knowledge, but an active agent participation in the society it serves.

The system organizes its activities around two research centers:

Research Centre in Administration and Social Sciences (CIDACS): Directed by Josť Francisco Solano.
Engineering Research Center, Applied Science and Technology (CITC): Directed by Juan Luis Crespo.
The actions of the schools cover different areas of action and levels of scope: From the definition of policy and strategy research to be done at the university, to advising and supporting action research or graduate work with a high content researcher as well as actions to promote research culture at all levels of the university community.

Result of this work, first results have started to become visible:

Cooperation agreements and agreed to carry out research activities, for example, the Chamber of Industries of Costa Rica or the National Nanotechnology Laboratory.
Research projects within the University Institution: Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Sustainable Development, Educational Innovation.
Publication of papers in international congresses, such as the Iberoamerican Congress on Engineering and Technological Innovation, CIIIT 2010.

Quality Academic

Unit of Academic Quality Assurance and University Teaching America is created with the aim that there is a body responsible for implementing strategies to strengthen and ensure the quality of education provision and to coordinate with other business units commissioning of them. Also provide advice and support to academic and administrative areas. By designing courses, academic assessment, self-assessment and self-curricular.

Mission
Achieve and maintain academic quality and teaching, as key aspects of development and growth of the institution.

Objectives:
Curriculum needs and identify priority areas for development, in coordination with other institutions.
Coordinate with academic units and departments related to design and evaluate curricula.
To follow up on improvement plans proposed by the different units.
Features:

The functions of the Unit for Academic Quality Assurance of the Latin University of Costa Rica to advise and monitor the actions of the sections are in charge of the design of racing and modification of curriculum, academic assessment processes self-assessment and self-regulation.
Improvement processes replenish the Academic Unit when required.
Design and evaluation of the course.
Curriculum evaluation (self and self-regulation for the improvement and accreditation).
Curriculum design (evaluation of proposals for the creation or modification of curricula and advice in this field.)
Academic assessment (assessment and implementation of strategies for improving the teaching).
Academic Evaluation
Objectives:

Establish procedures for academic assessment, understood as evaluation of teaching performance (quality and compliance of the subject taught).
Provide academic counseling to address in their evaluation processes.
Among the functions may include:
Teacher-course evaluation
Instruments applied to students.
Implement strategies for academic evaluation, in coordination with the appropriate agency.
Implementing academic assessment.
Provide technical support to the Academic Board.
Provide academic counseling to address.
Monitor the implementation of evaluative activities.
Follow up plans for self-regulation addresses academic.
Evaluate staff (compliance and quality of service) review: students and teachers.
Institutional Self-Evaluation
Self-evaluation allows a holistic view of institutional work. Its purpose is to improve the quality of academic offerings, so it is an explicit commitment by the authorities and the various actors involved in the educational project. Its success depends on teamwork of those in charge of the training process.

Goals:

A comprehensive review of institutional activities in order to know the strengths and weaknesses in the various curriculum components.
Contribute to improving the quality of educational provision, through self-regulatory proposals.
Providing opportunities for participation in institutional self-evaluation, the different actors of the educational process by creating spaces for reflection and analysis.
Features:

Coordination with university officials to choose the career self-assessment.
Promoting Self-Assessment Section and report on their responsibilities and functions.
Provide information on the process of institutional self-evaluation.
Advise and inform the various institutional departments about the responsibility that rests on self-assessment.
Coordination with Academic Addresses actions to relevant career self-assessment.
Request to institutional sectors and relevant information needed.
Analysis of information collected by different sources.
Report writing and presentation to the departments involved in the process.
Information self-regulatory proposals to the university authorities.
Managing files and documents.
Career Design and Modification
Objectives:

Coordinate with various government institutions, the process of designing new courses.
Submit to CONESUP and the Higher Council of Education on new careers as design guidelines and regulations of both agencies.
Academic Directions Coordinate with changing curricula.
Features:

Coordination with university authorities (address and chief executive) to select the race to be created.
Coordination with Dean, Dean's office the choice of specialists in the field of knowledge of their chosen career.
Coordination with specialists in charge of design development (mesh) curriculum.
Preparation of contract and institutional guidelines for the specialist, in coordination with the Dean and Executive Director.
Coordination with senior administrators (academic and administrative).
Review of the proposal developed by specialists to verify and make adjustments in accordance with regulations.
Drafting and including annexes.
Coordination with academic addresses the assignment of teachers of different courses.
Produce tables of teachers.
Preparation of fact acceptance of teachers, crowded gathering and organizing.
Coordination with attorneys for the respective authentication and certification of documents that are sent to CONESUP.
Coordination with specialists and academic authorities response: prevention and hearing each race or amendment submitted to CONESUP.
Editing and submission of response CONESUP.
CONESUP meetings with analysts.
