USFQ is primarily to train, educate, research and serve the community within the philosophy of the Liberal Arts integrating all sectors of society.


USFQ be a model university of liberal arts education, entrepreneurship, scientific, technological and cultural development in Ecuador and Latin America, recognized for quality and leadership of its graduates.

San Francisco de Quito is a cosmopolitan city, declared by UNESCO as World Heritage. Founded on December 6, 1534 by Sebastian de Benalcázar, quickly became the center of cultural activity of the Royal Audiencia of Quito in the Spanish period and is one of the most beautiful architectural gems that lasts until today.

Quito was built on the slopes of Mount Pichincha, at 2800 meters above sea level. At present, it is a modern city central hull keeps the relics of the colonial era. It has a multicultural population of a million and half people.

The University is located east of Quito in one of the surrounding valleys, Kumbaya, 2400 meters high with a warm, spring privileged status through most of the year.


Universidad San Francisco de Quito is a private, nonprofit, based in the Liberal Arts, which seeks to train leaders: innovators (accepting the change, promote and use it to create a more just and fair) creative (boosting new ideas) and entrepreneurship (risk taking based on knowledge and wisdom.) University History

Universidad San Francisco de Quito is the realization of a dream of its developer, Dr. Santiago González Gangotena and selfless contribution of many people. Thanks to a combination of several factors was finally achieved in the year of 1980 bringing together a large number of academics and businessmen from the region to form the nonprofit entity University Development Corporation. Legalization agreement is finalized by the Ministry of Education and Culture No. 5352 of June 17, 1985, published in Official Gazette of the Government of Ecuador No. 217 of June 28, 1985. Its purpose was to create a private university with high academic in Ecuador.

The contribution of companies and individuals managed to crystallize the project, which opened on 1st. September 1988 in a residential house located on the Avenue October 12, 1983 and Salazar. At its inception approximately 130 students enrolled, 80% of the Sierra and 20% of the Coast. It began with three academic units-faculty-called colleges: the College of Management for Development with 70% of the students, the College of Applied Sciences with 10% and the College of Communication and Culture with 20%. In September 1990 began operating the College of Environmental Sciences. From September 1992 a new plan was established six academic units: College of Development Administration, College of Communication and Arts, College of Environmental Sciences, College of Applied Sciences, College of Social Sciences and Humanities (since 1997 change the name of Liberal Arts), and College of Languages. In 1993 he opened the College of Architecture and in 1994 began the College of Health Sciences with the School of Medicine, and the College of Agriculture.

The University was officially recognized by the Ecuadorian government in October 1995 under Executive Order 3166 of October 18, 1995, published in Official Gazette 809 of 25 October 1995. University's statutes were approved by the CONESUP (National Council of Higher Education) on May 18, 2001. It is a private, secular university, offering a comprehensive training and humanist students. Admission is open to everyone without restrictions on sex, race, religion or political ideology. The acceptance of an applicant to the University is in recognition of their human potential and intellectual ability and not a right. Each student has full autonomy to pursue their studies in the religious or ideological frame of reference that it has, but any action that promotes discord rather than dialogue, is liable to immediate expulsion and / or loss of right to reinstatement.

The University is maintained by the contributions of University Development Corporation, which seeks academic excellence in all their actions. Therefore, it is the policy of the Corporation to do everything possible so that any student who requires financial assistance get it. In the 2002-2003 academic year offered economic assistance to 40% of undergraduates of the institution. USFQ is the most important project of the nonprofit organization, Corporación de Promoción Universitaria. The governing body is the Board of the Corporation, whose legal representative is the Secretary General, who also serves as the Chancellor of the University, its highest authority. Immediately is the Academic Dean and then the deans of different colleges. The University does not count, for reasons of administrative efficiency, academic departments within each school, but coordinators representing the areas of academic knowledge. These are honorary positions and those of the academic deans.
