The National University of Loja, is an institution of higher education, secular, autonomous, public law, with legal and non-profit, high-quality academic and humanistic, which offers training levels: technical and technologically superior, professional or tertiary, and graduate or fourth level, which makes scientific and technical research on the problems of environment, quality, relevance and equity in order to contribute to sustainable development in the region and country, interacting with the community generating alternative proposals to the national problems with social responsibility, recognizing and promoting cultural diversity and ethnic and folk wisdom, relying on scientific and technological progress, seeking to improve the quality of life of the Ecuadorian people.

The Federal Government headed by Mr. Manuel Carrión Pinzano Decree provides that assigned to St. Bernard School (original name of the current Experimental College Bernardo Valdivieso), is offering courses in Jurisprudence, Philosophy, Theology and Medicine, becoming an effective only for Jurisprudence.
