La Universidad del Azuay born in 1968 and is headquartered in the city of Cuenca, capital of the province of Azuay. Historically, in the beginning was a part, first, of Santiago de Guayaquil Catholic University and then at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador. In 1990, after complying with all legal requirements was recognized as the University of Azuay, through Republic Act. In 2006 became the first university in achieving Acreditaciónpor Ecuadorian part of the National Assessment and Accreditation CONEA.
