Polytechnic School of Chimborazo (ESPOCH) has its origin in the Chimborazo Higher Technological Institute, established by Law No.6090, issued by the National Congress on April 18, 1969. Started its academic activities on May 2, 1972 with the Schools of Engineering Animal Husbandry, Nutrition and Dietetics and Mechanical Engineering. Opens on April 3, 1972.
On September 28, 1973 is annexed the School of Agricultural Sciences, PUCE, adopting the designation of School of Agricultural Engineering.
According to Law 6909 of April 18, 1969, issued by the National Congress published by the Official Gazette No. 173 of May 7, 1969, establishing the Higher Institute of Technology Chimborazo, beginning his academic work on May 2, 1972. The change of name to Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo ESPOCH, is produced by Law No. 1223 of October 29, 1973 published in Official Gazette No. 425 of 6 November that year. School of Dietetics and Nutrition and Animal Husbandry Engineering faculties became as stipulated in the Higher Education Act in relevant articles.
In 1978 he created the School of Chemistry and Business Administration. On August 15, 1984 created the School of Doctorate in Mathematical Physics which together with the School of Chemistry and Technology Doctoral existing form entering the Faculty of Sciences.
On 21 December 1985 establishing the School of Computing becoming dependent on the Faculty of Sciences. The race of Biochemistry and Pharmacy was created by Resolution No. 311 of] Honorable Polytechnic Council (HCP) of 7 September 1999.
On September 27, 1992 created the School of Engineering and Technology Banking and Finance in Marketing who join the Faculty of Business Administration, Engineering Systems joins the Faculty of Science Degree in Health Education passing be part of the School of Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health today called.
On November 17, 1994. Through resolutions HCP N º. 238 and 239, are created School of Engineering and Technology School Ecotourism Agroforestry today as part of the Faculty of Agriculture, now called Natural Resources.
On 7 July 1995 and The School of Linguistics and June 31, 1997, changes its name to School of Languages and Communication, by Resolution No. 296.
On August 15, 1995 through Resolution No. 167 establishing HCP Engineering School of Animal Industries horn part of the Faculty of Animal Science, Faculty of Engineering formerly called Animal Husbandry.
On September 7, 1995, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering creates Enforcement Careers in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Maintenance, through resolutions 200 and 200a, the HCP
On August 19, 1996, by Resolution No. 236 establishing the Faculty of Science, attached to the School of Computer Science, Electronic Engineering Career.
On July 31, 1997, the Faculty of Business Administration The School of Technology in Marketing and Engineering in Marketing, by resolution No. 317 of HCP races Foreign Trade and Financial Engineering are created by resolution No. 142 HCP of March 28, 2000.

The ESPOCH is an institution with legal personality fully autonomous public law, is governed by the Constitution of Ecuador, the Higher Education Act and its own statutes and regulations and is domiciled in the city of Riobamba.

The ESPOCH is a public institution that bases its actions on the principles of autonomy, democracy, co-governance, academic freedom and inviolability of its premises. Encourages respect for the inherent values of the individual, which guarantees freedom of thought, expression, religion, equality, pluralism, tolerance, critical thinking and compliance with laws and regulations.
