First team football at the University in the year 1961, team members in the company of the Queen of the institution, Miss Mireya Gutierrez, Princess Esperanza Preto and godmother Margalida Gil Z.

Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas was founded in 1948 by initiative of the priest Daniel of Caicedo who also was its first rector.

In the founding of the City University of Bogotá, as it was called, was said to be a university established by the Council of Bogotá, to give more education to young urban poor. The University still maintains the sign and seeks to ensure the access of disadvantaged sections thus amount to the social scale of values as a form of justice and social equity.

Another key feature of the university is that its programs were chosen so as to present solutions to problems felt in the city. Thus, the first race was created radio engineering, which eventually would become the career of electronic engineering. The other race was still existing topography and that eventually led to the cadastral engineering career. Another race was dedicated to the care and preservation of the environmental forestry named later.

Towards the end of 1960, introducing other academic trends with technology designed to strengthen the path of the projection to the social areas with specific knowledge. It strengthens the areas of basic sciences and humanities grant of technology and art and it appears the department of basic sciences such as chemistry, physics and biology to the humanities such as philosophy, history, anthropology and languages.

The University worked for the first time today houses the Museum of Urban Development in the Calle 10 and Carrera 8a., Opposite the Palace Liévano and the National Capitol, in what is now established as a historic site of the city.

From the moment you lose all historical data from the University until 1957 when the military junta then gives the character of the State University. At that time, the city of Bogotá was renamed the Special District and the University called University District.

It seems that the name of Francisco José de Caldas, the University took the time at which the decree was issued by the Governing Board to change the name of City University of Bogota for the University Distrital Francisco José de Caldas.

The University was given legal track from 1970 with Decree 1030 of that year. Until then, had been operating for simple management and organizational development of a group of people working around a sense of common goals, community knowledge and academic purposes.

Upon reaching the 70's, were created Departments of Physics and Chemistry and the University student population increases significantly. This change required to renew the way of work and how to act organizationally.

Due to the lack of an own workplace that will enable the University to develop its activities with some stability, this was located on a provisional basis in various sectors. This recalls a building occupied in the center of Bogotá front of City Hall and owned by the National Railways. The University continued to grow and was again located in an area belonging to the Navy commissary. In this place there was the need for increased academic capacity and coverage by introducing more races, which attracted more student population. Academic programs were born there and defined as such: Systems Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, which are highly regarded in our country.

Simultaneously creates degrees in education and linguistics and literature in Spanish and English, social sciences, chemistry, physics, mathematics and biology.

In the mid 70's, is achieved by the acquisition of properties that are on the seventh race in the same street naming in 40 and today is the new Tower and Administrative Headquarters (of Engineering .)

The university continued to grow while the city was growing and needed to find more spaces. He then won a seat in the district where Benjamin Herrera came to work with racing engineering and cadastral surveying and warehouse. He was later handed over the facilities of the elementary school called American School located in the district Oct. 12 at 76th Street between 54 and 52 runs against a police station.

For this time the idea of locating a branch of the University in the populous neighborhood south Kennedy west of Bogota, in order that the University of the District made a presence in that area. This idea never came to fruition.

In 1979, obeying the difficulties of political and organizational the institution was closed for two years and reopened again, totally renovated by Decree 80 of 1980 with a new home recently built in the neighborhood of La Macarena to the east of the city. Over time, this new building became the reference site of the University.

For the years 1993 and 1994, there is the Faculty of Technology, strengthens the Faculty of Engineering and created the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, which has been the great window of the university to society and the rest of academia.

With the structure that brought back, the University could not overcome its past and needed to generate an academic management center unlike anything that the university knew and from this project, perform the initial program to be a true university district.

At that time states that there was a student in Bogota segment that was not covered by the public sector of higher education, and was training in technology. Knowing that infinite space management, and that it could respond quickly and directly to the most pressing needs of the poorest sectors of the city, all this together with suggestions of mayors and councilors, puts the University District in Ciudad Bolivar, and there , now offers students the opportunity to train professionals of high social impact. The University becomes a social catalyst in Ciudad Bolivar.

The University District is beginning to gain academic and political spaces. Is represented in ASCUN Board in the Board of the Strategic Plan of Bogota, in the Botanical Garden Board of Bogota in the Development Fund for Higher Education and begins to make presence in the external world from the point organizationally and academically. The meaning is to show the University, and especially to their own students, there is another environment, that there are other external worlds which must be put to guide the discussion toward more complex issues no matter, for the moment, your organization internal as the country marches towards external accreditation necessary and that policy should enter the University to compete.

You must show it is capable of being a major player in the national academic scene and internationally. It is the reason why there are moves to Germany, Spain, Canada, France, Latin American countries like Cuba, Mexico, Chile to desprovinciar the University, to evaluate opportunities, threats and weaknesses. It is to honor the name of Francisco Jose de Caldas.
