La Universidad del Valle, as public universities, whose mission is to educate on the upper level through the generation and dissemination of knowledge in the fields of science, culture and art, art, technology and humanities, with autonomy and social service vocation. According to its nature state institution, makes commitments delegated to building a just and democratic society.


La Universidad del Valle, one of the largest public higher education institutions in the country (Colombia) in coverage, quality and diversity of its services, aims to establish itself as a university of excellence, relevant, innovative, efficient, competitive, with projection and international scientific research.


The University was established by Ordinance # 12, 1945 (June 11) of the Departmental Assembly of Valle del Cauca, with the name "Industrial Universidad del Valle del Cauca."
This name was later changed (in 1954) by Ordinance # 10 which currently has "Universidad del Valle."

Valley University is based in Cali, capital of Valle del Cauca department, one of the most industrially developed regions in Colombia known for its high capacity of cane sugar exports worldwide. It is a very fertile land where large agricultural businesses.
Cali is home now, seven universities, which highlights the Universidad del Valle for his extensive coverage in the areas of humanities, as well as the development of the areas of scientific research and applied technology, for which has enjoyed the strong and decisive support from international organizations and other universities through inter-agency cooperation agreements.

Research and technical potential of human resources

The University has a team of about a thousand teachers of whom about seven are full time and has a large proportion of doctorate degrees, masters or specialization. More than half of these full-time faculty perform research in different areas and many projects are developed on applied fields and special conditions for the city or region. Also develop specialized research programs in the areas of basic sciences and humanities.
