The University of Pamplona was born in 1960 as private institution, under the leadership of priest José Faria Bermúdez. In 1970 it was converted into a public university at the departmental, by Decree No 0553 of August 5, 1970 and in 1971 the Ministry of Education the power to grant professional degrees, according to Decree No. 1550 of August 13
During the sixties and seventies, the University grew in line with training for graduates, most of the areas that needed to be addressed in education: Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Social Sciences, Education, Educational Administration, Languages Foreigners, Spanish - Literature and Physical Education.
In the eighties the institution made the leap into professional training in other fields of knowledge, a stage that began at the end of this decade with the Food Technology Program.
Later in the nineties were created in the fields of Natural Sciences and Technology, Programs with emphasis in Food Microbiology, the Food and Electronic Engineering and Technology in Environmental Health. In the field of socio-economic sciences, the Systems Management program, initially as a technology and then professionally.
This work is developed by a team of highly trained in the best universities in the country and abroad, at the level of specialization, masters and doctorates, and efficient administrative management. In turn the growth process and qualification of the University has been accompanied by the construction of a modern physical plant, with large and comfortable spaces for academic work, organized in an atmosphere of coexistence with nature, the same with the provision of laboratories and modern communication systems and information, now give comparative advantages in fulfilling its mission.
The Institutional Project of the University, the chart expresses the open and democratic spirit that characterizes it, and its commitment to regional and national development, the same, their strategies are projected organizational dynamics, management and operations by which efficiency achieved in fulfilling its academic purposes, social and productive.
According to Law 30 of 1992, the University of Pamplona is identified as a special regime institution with administrative autonomy, academic, financial, independent estate, legal and within the Ministry of Education.
Today, the University has significantly expanded its educational offerings to meet new demands making training, generated in the region or in the same evolution of science, art, technology and humanities.
