The Catholic University of East is a diocesan school based his work on the person as center and rationale for all actions. Recognizes, practices and integrates the major functions of university research, teaching and extension around the region for a vision of comprehensive regional development.

Our institutional growth is based on the growth of man and defined from the need to adapt and apply new developments in the fields of teaching, research, development, science and technology, acting in accordance with the new demands of higher education in Colombia.

Our processes are properly certified under the System of Quality Management ISO 9001 - 2000 and the Environmental Management System ISO 14001 - 2004, which allows us to provide a service of quality education in a scenario where globalization has gone beyond geographical boundaries.

The university senate impart an ethical, humanistic and social, present in the instructional technology, scientific and professional. The Catholic University of the East, is an institution of higher education, was in the form of a private foundation of canonical origin of common benefit, non-profit organization, founded and run by the Diocese of Sonson Rionegro, is a legal ecclesiastical and civil law, recognized by the Colombian government by legal number 2650 of 24 February 1983 and 9 May 6718 the same year, and institutional recognition as a University by Resolution No. 003278 of June 25, 1993, issued by the Ministry of Education to operate and issue degrees.

The Catholic University of the East, as an institution of the Catholic Church is governed, in addition to state standards, terms of the Concordat by force, by the doctrine and ecclesiastical tradition, and the Indicative Strategic Development Plan.

The Catholic University of the East is to address the city of Rio Negro, in the department of Antioquia, Colombia.

The Catholic University of the East was founded on February 11, 1982 by Bishop Alfonso Uribe Jaramillo, bishop of the Diocese of Sonson Rionegro, motivated to create an institution of higher education that respond effectively to the perceived needs of the community of Eastern Antioquia.

Was recognized by the Ministry of National Education as a university institution by Resolution No. 003278 of June 25, 1993.

Our institution came at a time when cyclical development of Eastern Antioquia channeling, not only the expectations of the region but also the positioning of new professionals within the Latin American context and finds its purpose in the individual as the focus and reason for all their actions.
