EAFIT University has the mission to contribute to social, economic, scientific and cultural development through the development of undergraduate and graduate, in an atmosphere of ideological pluralism and academic excellence "for training of competent people internationally; and the processes carried out scientific and applied research, in constant interaction with business, government and academia.

n a city of 500 000 inhabitants and large industries transforming raw materials, half a century ago was born an idea without precedent in the region. Most companies that existed in Medellín at the end of the fifties were made up of engineers who learned from daily experience, the proper way to manage resources, personnel, material procurement and product marketing.
Academic training in the area of Business Administration did not exist in any institution of higher education in Medellín. And to this gap, a group of businessmen Antioquia determined that it was vitally important to train people with enough capacity to run a business and let the engineers of the time functions corresponding to their training.
"We did a sort of survey in various media (...), and found that few administrators who had, came from U.S. universities, and Mr. Hernan Echavarria Olózaga said, 'because if we do not have Let us do formémoslos'. And virtually that was like the little engine that we created this concern, "says Jorge Iván Rodríguez Castańo, founder and chairman of the Higher Council EAFIT.
Thus, the then School of Administration and Finance (EAF) was inaugurated on May 4, 1960 at a venue provided in a bank building in the center of the city. Months later, he moved to a larger house, also at the center, where, in 1962, created the Institute of Technology, which allowed the institution to see itself in a more universal and complete your name: EAFIT.
Finally, the University moved to the current campus, located in the La Aguacatala south of the city. In principle, there were many problems of access in the latter venue. There were no avenues Las Vegas Regional, and to enter the campus was necessary to cross a precarious bridge over the Rio Medellin.
Over the years the institution was opened new fields of knowledge. In 1971 he obtained recognition as a University and was the opening of schools: Administration and Engineering (1979), Science and Humanities (1997), and Law (1999).
