It was founded in 1996 to 27 November 1997 certifying the official recognition of the University Miguel de Cervantes, by Exempt Decree No. 1169 of the Ministry of Education.
After satisfying the requirements and deadlines set by the respective standards, the Superior Council of Education granted the autonomy of the university, Decision No. 008/2009, adopted at the regular meeting of January 15, 2009, which states "during the period licensing, Universidad Miguel de Cervantes has successfully developed its institutional project, in which reason has attained full institutional autonomy that enables it to provide all kinds of diplomas and degrees independently. "
