Universidad Mayor
Las Condes, Santiago, Chile

University description (as per official university website)

Two decades have passed since we started the noble task of helping to develop the country since the formation of educated professionals and entrepreneurs. Twenty years speak of a history of sustained growth, innovation and leadership in higher education. The first example of this spirit is evident in our founding in 1988, when instead of creating an alternative education for careers in venture-investment-also called "chalk and board" - we decided to go for a training offer science and technology. Civil Engineering and Architecture, would be our first two races, constituting an unprecedented event in the concert of the nascent private higher education system. The years to come would be accelerated growth.

In 1989, we were the first private university to create Agriculture and Forestry, in '91, the first to provide veterinary medicine and six years later, we reaffirm our leadership in creating the School of Dentistry. In 1998, the opening of the medical career devoted to us as the pioneer private university scientific and technological training. Goodbye twentieth century development making a decision to be proud of: the creation of the headquarters Temuco, resolution that we became the first private university to establish an autonomous regional headquarters. The start of the new millennium we had a country with cultural and social changes accelerated. Science and technology are transformed into a hub of development in the country and our way of university education is enhanced by the creation of new courses in the area of health and implementing their respective laboratories and clinics. For 2004, we had dental clinic, kinetics, speech therapy and psychological.

In 2005, we were accredited by the National Commission on Undergraduate CNAP and, consistent with our spirit of excellence and leadership, we decided to initiate a process of international accreditation with recognized U.S. accrediting agency, Middle States Commission on Higher Education, MSCHE, becoming the first university in Latin America to achieve the status of Candidate for Accreditation.

This milestone in our development not only renew our commitments to the country, but moves us to adjust our processes to meet quality standards that share prestigious universities in the northern hemisphere. In fact, the condition of Candidates for Accreditation, allowed us to become a full member of that select group who lead, among others, the universities of Princeton, Georgetown and Johns Hopkins. Thus, the 2008 strikes us as a university established and plans for growth, development and innovation.

Motivated by this challenge, we have implemented the program SapMayor which gives us access to cutting edge technology in information systems, modernizing our processes and gaining access to a system of university management practices of the highest quality in the world. A milestone for celebrating 20 years of institutional life that invite you to celebrate with us through this stamp.
