The University Viña del Mar (UVM) is a private higher education institution, independent and accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Chile (CNA).
Its mission is: "Providing access to relevant and quality education in a critical environment, a diverse and integrated global network that promotes the exchange of experiences and opportunities, contributing to the development of its regional environment and national and cultural expansion innovation by training competent and honest professionals. "
The University Viña del Mar (UVM) was founded on November 21, 1988, by a group of professionals headed by Barham Madain Ayub engineer and architects José Ignacio Martínez and Eduardo Bengoa Nanjari Roman.
In March 1990, the UVM opened its doors to offer careers in Architecture, Commercial Engineering, Civil Engineering Computer Science and Journalism. At the same time, opened an office in the city of San Felipe, in order to project its educational activities in the provinces of Aconcagua.
During the following years, careers mentioned were added other programs and technical college level.
In 1997, the South-North Group headed by former Education Minister Sergio Molina Silva joined the university property.
AUTONOMY AND GROWTH
On 12 October 2000, the Superior Council of Education of Chile, gave the Viña del Mar University of institutional autonomy.
Aware of his status as a leading institution clearly committed to the development of the Region of Valparaiso, 30 March 2004, the UVM opened its main campus in Rodelillo sector, on land located next to the main southern entrance to Viña Sea, adjacent to where he preached in 1987 Pope John Paul II and minutes from the city center.
Due to its characteristics and location represents UVM Campus entrance to Viña del Mar and is intended to be a major focus of academic, cultural, social and technological development of the city.
On October 12, 2005, the National Undergraduate Accreditation (CNAP), an agency under the Ministry of Education, UVM gave it to the institutional accreditation for three years under the parameters defining the quality of universities Chile.
In December 2008, the National Accreditation Commission (CNA-Chile) has extended accreditation to the University of Viña del Mar until December 2011, in recognition of the quality of the processes that this institution exhibits in the areas of Governance and Undergraduate Teaching.
Today, UVM is preparing to undergo a new process of institutional accreditation.
INCORPORATING A GLOBAL NETWORK
On August 18, 2009, the network Laureate Education Inc. became the new holder of the Viña del Mar University with the aim of strengthening its academic project, advance and promote the innovative and flexible educational model that characterizes their institutions, to continue contributing to the training of professionals and advanced human capital that the Region of Valparaiso and the country demand.
The new authorities of the UVM, headed by the rector Julio Castro Sepúlveda, has proposed to undertake the challenge of the knowledge society requires every university: to be a House of Studies increasingly committed to excellence, quality, core values the human person, freedom, responsibility, pluralism and criticism.
