The Catholic University of Maule, as an institution of the diocesan Church, "is a center for analysis and dissemination, in light of the Catholic faith, look up the meaning of science and technology in order to serve the comprehensive development of human person. " (General Statutes Maule)
In this context, the Bishop of Talca exercised the patronage of the mission of the University and, in turn, ensures the legitimate autonomy within the Church in accordance with the provisions of the Apostolic Constitution "Ex Corde Ecclesiae, which guides statutes.

This forces you to be, through the joint efforts of pastors and lay people, one of the many ways the Church fulfills its mission to proclaim the Gospel.
Similarly, the Maule professes his loyalty active and diligent teaching of the pastors of the Church, His Holiness the Pope and in particular its Diocesan Bishop, directing its act creatively to society and the people attempting to serve, considering the signs of the times.

Historical Review

The Maule is a higher education institution founded by His Excellency the Bishop of the Diocese of Talca, Monsignor Carlos GonzŠlez Cruchaga, by decree dated July 10, 1991.

Our house of studies derived from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile Maule Regional Headquarters, therefore is legal successor in academic and economic.

The University participates in the public legal personality of the Catholic Church, is a person of public law in accordance with Chilean law, recognized by the Chilean government as derived from the Pontifical University Catholic University of Chile, according to Decree No. 930 of Ministry of Finance of October 15, 1991.

The term of their status as headquarters, challenged the new university the need to define their tasks independently future based on past experience, to assume the challenges of its existence as an autonomous university.

Thus, the Maule is an institution with full autonomy, understood as the right to decide for itself, under its Constitution and Bylaws, all matters concerning the fulfillment of its purposes.

Among the main achievements of its history as an autonomous University Headquarters and highlights: the university community effort to create a space in the Maule Region for training of professionals, imbued with a true Christian spirit in the service of society, the community teachers and students that has been building through dialogue, the concern about the regional culture and development, and the accountability and efficiency in managing human and material resources.
