1988 - 2008

The university, a project conceived as essentially academic, pluralist, wanted to collect the best of Chilean university tradition and align it with the great challenges of modernity. That was the vision of its founders, who were characterized as teacher-professionals from different areas, trained in different universities and different social visions. This rich, relevant way, his first strategic definitions.

The University was formally in October 1988 as a contribution to the development of higher education and having, as one of its main purposes, the play a profound social role: to contribute to the overall effort, which should make the country, providing to all secondary school graduates equal opportunities in access to higher education and university degrees and titles that allow progress to occur.

The University offered during the first years, demanding careers of infrastructure and basic equipment. In any case, its corporate seal was always quality. The first races were Law, Architecture, Engineering, Business and Journalism. Civil Engineering and then were added in different terms, Construction, Certified Public Accountant and Psychology. Nevertheless he was always one of its purposes to address all disciplines and areas of knowledge, including scientific complexity.

The first step in this direction was the creation of the Engineering in Aquaculture, which offered tuition since 1993, an initiative with which the Andrés Bello University became the first private university that implemented a program of greater complexity, assuming the responsibility to comply with the requirements of infrastructure and equipment that such projects demand. Associated with this educational program, born simultaneously Marine Research Center located in the Caleta de Quintay today proud of their level of development, scientific and technical successes have been achieved in many research projects, and their valuable work in supporting many coves of artisanal fishermen.

Andrés Bello University through the Center for Marine Research, has become the leading supplier of seeds of sea urchins in the country, and the creator, among others, technology that allows captive flounder grow, opening an opportunity to negotiate -services to the private sector, which could become equivalent to salmon farming.

In the seventh year of its founding in 1996, when the University had nearly six thousand students and offered thirteen races, the founders Luis Cordero, Ignacio Fernandez and Marcelo Ruiz, compared to the remoteness of the other founding partners, will take over the property University and reorganized the project partners incorporated as supporters to Mr. Alvaro Saieh, Miguel Angel Poduje, Jorge Selume, Andrés Navarro and Juan Antonio Guzmán. Thus, these eight holders become part of the Board and convene a group of leading academics and scientists to join the project meet the definition of its mission to address more vigorously the demands imposed by the knowledge society , given a new organizational structure and form a new university governance.

This period is particularly important the participation of prominent lawyers and public men, Maximo Pacheco Gomez and William Elton Alamos, who alternate in the Vice President of the Board, making a great contribution to the project, and academics, Joaquim Barceló and Manuel Krauskopf, who come to defog after ownership of the rectory.

In this period, the University assumes the main recommendations of the Board of Education upper. Moreover, placing greater demands on self-organization and academic excellence recommended by the watchdog. Strengthens organically through a structure based on superior academic and basic units, also incorporating new academic teams in the core disciplines, which allows you to configure the first research centers participating in the National Science and Technology (FONDECYT, FONDEF FONTEC et al.)

The tables academic influence in the areas of science stressed, under the experience gained in the Marine Research Center Quintay, creating an area of life sciences, increasingly incorporating doctors in Jor-nothing scheme complete. Later, the same is done in the fields of chemistry, physics, mathematics, philosophy and history. It is undoubtedly the areas listed building which marks the seal structure and academic development of the Universidad Andrés Bello. The strength of its areas of Basic Sciences announces the solid and rapid growth which will subsequently.

Indeed, the strengthening of research generated the conditions and atmosphere of competitiveness and excellence that helped create more complex programs, embodied in careers such as Medicine and Dentistry and Bachelor of Philosophy and History. This development also included a full program of Bachelor of Science and Humanities and the raid on numerous other health careers, with the support of broad agreements with various public and private clinical settings. All this helped to start new careers by ensuring the proper development of each of the ten biomedical programs offered by the university today, through the most comprehensive Faculty of Health and Dentistry of the private system.

Similarly, in the same period began the development of graduate programs, with many graduates, masters and doctoral highly complex personalities by World des sciences.

2003 onwards:

From 2000 onwards, after achieving full autonomy, Andrés Bello University became the country's leading private university. However, to attain a position of greater excellence and be able to join the select handful of universities and high complexity that exist today in Chile, the University still needed more investment and resources, as well as effective international links, to make available the benefits of globalization to all members of its academic community. After evaluating several alternatives, the Chilean supporters chosen as strategic partner, Laureate Education Consortium, which brought together two essential attributes for this alliance was an opportunity to have a significant financial contribution and, on the other hand, under a portfolio of academic experiences prestige in Europe and the United States, accumulated through a network of universities and educational institutions, all accredited by specialized agencies in quality assurance.

All this is confirmed in the successes achieved in the phased accreditation of each of its undergraduate programs, and especially in the accreditation of their degrees, an area where Andrés Bello University shows an undisputed leadership in the amount and complexity of the programs offered, and have also begun to be accredited by their merits and achievements.

The year 2007 reached the university in a first level course in terms of prestige, in all private universities, and in many respects, ahead of many traditional universities.
