Diego Portales University is an academic project to train professionals with a high theoretical and practical control of their future field of work and discipline, and commitment to social, economic and cultural development. The main guidelines of our educational model are:
Connecting teaching and research: to promote a close relationship between disciplinary knowledge to teach in our teaching and academic research developed by our faculty.
Focus on skills: developing educational activities that allow students to learn skills and apply knowledge in a practical, in real contexts, professionals and academics.
Comprehensive training and committed to the development of the country through the General Education Courses (CFG), which offer students opportunities for cross-learning and integrated dialogue with students from other disciplines, and through various outreach and connectedness, which seeks to educate citizens committed and broad understanding of the issues relevant to the development of the country.
Internationalization through exchange activities with foreign universities (validating courses, doing internships, mentoring of teachers accessing), and a gradual internationalization of our curriculum, our students have access to varied opportunities to integrate a global perspective in training.

Diego Portales University is a private, nonprofit, whose estate is subject to a public-interest to higher education - and whose substrate is a university community that intends, through intellectual work, get a life space domestic public and international projects.
Since its inception in 1982, the UDP aims to be an institution to guarantee a space of freedom and independence critical to its members (autonomy), who refuses any kind of ideological affiliation, political or religious (pluralism) and has a clear and sustained public vocation. This, together with the orientation towards quality (excellence) of their activities, are hallmarks of his work.
Institutional identity of the Universidad Diego Portales is defined by a clear institutional framework around their system of government, in academic organization, the mode of appointment of charges and the methodology for assessment of their academics.
Universidad Diego Portales, founded on October 4, 1982, born as a private foundation that has validated its proposal on the experience of academic management IPEVO Professional Institute had developed for 20 years, since 1963.
The beginning of his teaching activities took place in March 1983 with three faculties: Management Science (Engineering Commercial Accountant Implementation and Engineering Management, Marketing and Finance), Law and Psychology, whose careers were considered by some traditional universities.
Soon after establishing the Federation of Students Portaleanos (FEDEPE), which makes the UDP in the first private university to have a Federation of Students.
On March 10, 1990, with the publication of the Constitutional Organic Law of Education, the university voluntarily submits to the accreditation process, to then arrange the university autonomy.
After the verification stage of academic processes, the Higher Education Council decreed, March 18, 1993, the full autonomy of the Universidad Diego Portales, based on the successful implementation of the UDP Institutional Project in its first 10 years of operation . This allowed the UDP have the prerogative to "... provide all kinds of academic degrees and independently ..."
Plan for growth:
Aware of the major challenges in the field of education and excellence, in 2002 the UDP design a plan for growth in long-term infrastructure supported by the securitized bond issue, with the endorsement of the World Bank, and promotes a new Formative model, whose implementation began in 2003, which considered the interdisciplinarity and the freedom of students as its main axis.
This allowed the university to develop an ambitious infrastructure plan after four years left with 100 000 m2 of first class infrastructure and significantly expand its range of undergraduate to spend 13 to 30 races.
In 2004, the UDP is one of the first national university system to submit voluntarily to the Pilot Institutional Accreditation Commission established by the then National Undergraduate Accreditation (CNAP) in the areas of Institutional Management, Quality Undergraduate and Infrastructure and Equipment. The result was a four-year accreditation, which lasted until the second half of 2008, which confirmed the will of the UDP to meet accepted standards of the national academic community.
To this is added also the accreditation of all undergraduate UDP that voluntarily submitted to the CNAP.
In 2008 the UDP was referred back to the institutional accreditation, this time in the areas of Institutional Management, Quality of Undergraduate and connectedness. The National Accreditation Commission (CNA) provides accreditation for 5 years until October 2013, thus confirming their quality standards and is tested once again, academic achievement, institutional and infrastructure that has UDP making, from its origins in the Field of Private Higher Education.
In 2005, the Universidad Diego Portales, began a substantive effort to improve its institutional framework. Result of the aforementioned restructuring its system of corporate governance by separating the control functions of management functions, drawn up a Charter that sets the purview of each of its organs, the duties incumbent on them and the scope of its authority, and is defined for the appointment of objections.
