The ISAAC has a rich history of more than four decades, and its current activities are dynamic and innovative. It is located on five campuses, which cover other areas of activity, from Florianópolis to Araranguá.
It was created in 1964 as a Community College, nonprofit.
Appeared in Jaws as FESSC, Educational Foundation of Southern Santa Catarina, becoming a university in 1989.
As University is focused on preparing the new generations, feeding back their commitment to society and their new values. Among its main objectives is to consolidate itself as an instrument of innovation and ongoing support to change society, relying on partnerships and alliances with a participatory management model that has ensured the quality and efficiency.
The ISAAC has installed four campuses in the municipalities of Jaws, Araranguá (1992), Palhoça (1996) and Florianópolis (2002), with units in several cities in their area.
In teaching, has about 25,000 students, distributed in more than 50 undergraduate, graduate and distance learning. The preschool and elementary and secondary education are offered by the College Dehon, complementary body of the University.
Keen to prepare students for professions in the future, Unisul, throughout its history, has always been characterized by innovation, having been the first university in Brazil to create, at the undergraduate level, a course in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Telematics, that combines knowledge of telecommunications and computing. It was also the first to implement a course in Applied Naturology that enables scholars to guide the use of natural resources for disease prevention and health maintenance. And it was one of the pioneers to launch a degree course in Physical Education with a focus on management of Sports.
Aware of new technologies, ISAAC is an international spotlight on Distance Education, as can be seen in the work of Virtual Unisul.

1 - As the mission of UNISUL the integral formation of citizens, UNISUL assume:
1.1 - that the student is essential and its value in this condition, is entitled to participate in their own educational process, becoming, in consequence, the focus of the dedication of teachers, staff and managers;
1.2 - that the teacher is the sponsor, guide, mentor and facilitator for this process excellence, enabling them to take on this attitude and practice in day-to-day activity;
1.3 - the educational process that prepares the student for the market and for life, involving the set of functions that will play in the complex society, changing global;
1.4 - relationships to academic and management excels by the humanization and transparency;
1.5 - the practice of humanization and transparency involves the ongoing exercise participation, solidarity, cooperation, integration, sharing and responsibility;

2 - As part of its mission the practice of innovative and creative management in the process of teaching, research and extension, the UNISUL assume:
2.1 - that the pursuit of excellence in all its activities is the essential content and meaning of bureaucratic processes and management and how to practice the humane management;
2.2 - that the management of UNISUL involves a commitment to the educational process and the generation of knowledge, thus contributing in the construction of more humane society in constant harmony with the advances of science and technology;
2.3 - that's commitment UNISUL in this building, get content from the promotion of regional development, integrated into global processes and interdependent;
2.4 - in this context, changes in institutional or behavioral disorders are not a threat but an opportunity, and update the assumption of its continuous line of people and the University with the environment and the world;

In this ongoing construction of the Mission and Values continued practice until 2013, UNISUL be recognized for quality and excellence of its actions and services. This recognition will require the UNISUL assume:

1.1 - Consolidate the position of leadership among undergraduate universities of Santa Catarina;
1.2 - Consolidate leadership in distance education and continuing education at the national level, reaching its full insertion into the virtual world and globalized, as a provider of science and technology;
1.3 - Achieve leading position among the best universities in the segment of Santa Catarina, graduate;
2 - Regarding Search:
2.1 - Consolidate scientific research as essential to the University and integral and inseparable part of teaching and learning;
2.2 - Promote advanced areas of research recognized by the national scientific community;
3 - Regarding Extension:
3.1 - Consolidate the extension mechanism as integrated and inseparable part of teaching and learning;
3.2 - Turn on the extension generator of self-sustainable community initiatives, and continuing education;
4 - Regarding the Management:
4.1 - Internalize practices and modern management processes, appropriate to the size of the University, and consistent with its mission, its values and its vision.
