Campus Bento Gonçalves Federal Institute of Science and Technology Education of Rio Grande do Sul is a federal institution of public education and free that is installed in an area of 843,639 square meters, divided between the headquarters (76,219.13 m²), located in central area the city of Bento Gonçalves, and farm-school (767,420 m²), located in Tuiuty district, 12 km away from headquarters. The institution was established on October 22, 1959 by Law No. 3646 of October 22, 1959 as the College of Viticulture and Enology of Bento Goncalves and went to work effectively from 27 March 1960. On March 25, 1985 changed its name to School Agrotechnical Federal President John F. Kennedy. On August 16, 2002, we implemented the Federal Center for Technological Education of Bento Gonçalves (Cefet-BG).

On December 29, 2008 the President signed into law that reorganizes the Federal Network of Professional and Technical Education, with the creation of 38 federal institutes, three in the RS. Thus was created the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Sul, which has the following campuses: Bento Goncalves, Canoas Caxias do Sul, Erechim, Osório, Porto Alegre, Sandbank, Grand River and Hinterland. Also make up the structure of IFRS units that had been nationalized in the following cities: Farringdon, Happy and Ibirubá.

Being an attractive regional and national level, Bento Gonçalves Campus houses students in its student body from various regions of the state and country. For this segment of the school community, the institution offers a boarding service, laundry, kitchen / dining room, counseling, nursing services, gymnasium, an auditorium, three lecture halls and conference center, with a shed typical gaucho traditions, library, auditorium, to cancha beach soccer, beach volleyball cancha to, gym, school, farm, agriculture and cooperative school.

For courses in Enology and Viticulture of the campus has a canteen of wine, wine bar, lounge Microvinification, vineyard production, nursery rootstocks and the following laboratories: Sensory Analysis (tasting room), Chemistry, Microbiology and enology.

The Course of Animal Science offers feed mill, slaughterhouse, cutting three aviaries, two poultry breeding farms, poultry rearing, area for production of chickens, plants for goats, pigs, rabbits, cattle feedlot, barn for dairy cows , milking, silos and apiary.

Agriculture in the area of the institution has two greenhouses, garden, collection of medicinal plants, collection of ornamental plants, orchard area for annual crops. There is also an agricultural machinery room, topography, soil laboratory and meteorological station.

The Course of Agricultural Industry has its own classroom with toilets and Agribusiness divided into the following sectors: dairy products, fruits and vegetables, meat and meat products, pasta and bakery.

As a professional organization dedicated to education, the Campus has agreements and partnerships with various institutions of the country and abroad, among them: University of Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro, Portugal, Università degli Studi di Udine and Università degli Studi di Padova, the Italy and the School of General Education and Agricultural Technology Blanquefort, France. It also maintains partnerships with organizations that offer internships abroad, such as the CAEP, and AFEBRAE IFAA. Through the Integration Coordinating School-Community maintains hundreds of companies registered to carry out internships in over 140 municipalities in RS and other states.

Institutional Evaluation

As of Wednesday, 3 / 11, begin work on the Institutional Assessment of the Campus. This is a time for students and employees to voice their opinions about the institution.

Below are some questions to clarify the purposes and principles of Institutional Assessment.

How will the evaluation process?

Regarding the participation of the international community (students and employees) will be held an online survey between 3 and 12 November 2010. Each of the servers in the campus will receive by email an access key to the system (valid for single use) so that they can contribute anonymously to this process of institutional construction.

Then I just fill out the online questionnaire?

Besides this contribution, during the next few weeks, prompted the support of colleagues in relation to specific questions about the campus. Some colleagues will be invited to contribute individually to the Subcommittee for assessment (SPA). For the progress of work, it is requested that those involved in the composition of information to engage in this process, since the schedule is limited, and the Nov. 16 deadline for compiling the information.

For this assessment is done?

This procedure, linked to the National Assessment of Higher Education (Sinai), aims to improve the quality of higher education, the orientation of the expansion of its offering, to permanently increase its efficiency and effectiveness of institutional academic and social environment, especially to promote the deepening of the commitments and social responsibilities of higher education institutions through the appreciation of their public mission of promoting democratic values, respect for difference and diversity, autonomy and affirmation of institutional identity.

What aspects will be covered?

Due to the proposal of the Federal Institutes of vertically education, IFRS will perform the evaluation of the institution as a whole, at all levels of education.

The dimensions to be covered are:

The mission and institutional development plan;
The policy for teaching, research, postgraduate training and extension;
The social responsibility of the institution;
The communication with society;
Personnel policies, the careers of faculty and staff and administrative;
The organization and management of the institution;
The physical infrastructure;
The planning and evaluation;
The attendance policy for students;
The financial sustainability.
Each of the 12 campuses of IFRS will hold its evaluation as collectively produced program, which will be further consolidated by the committee for assessment (CPA).
