The UNIME seeks help in solving some problems confronting the society through the formation of future political and intellectual leaders. In the social sphere, the institution leads and participates in discussions on major scientific and ethical issues with which the Bahian society faces.
Concerned with the flexibility, UNIME presents, where possible, the multidimensional character of higher education, giving the students a solid academic generally necessary to overcome the "challenges of new conditions of professional practice and knowledge production ..." (Report for UNESCO of the International Commission for the XXI Century, p. 49). In this sense, it adopts the practice of independent study, in pursuit of intellectual autonomy, as a prerequisite to professional autonomy and the strengthening of linkages between theory and practice through research and individual and collective participation in extension activities.
To ensure its mission, UNIME axis adopts the structure of their educational practice the four fundamental learning, as recommended by the report of UNESCO through the International Commission on Education for the XXI century:
"Learning to know" - characterized by the pursuit of the knowledge domain of the instruments primarily for the purpose of discovering, understanding and doing science;
"Learning to do" - it being understood that, although distinguishable from "learning to know," "learning to do" refers directly to training, to the extent that it is guiding the students to put into practice their knowledge adapting education to the configuration of work in modern society;
"Learning to live together" - and be a man of relations, constitutes a major challenge for education in order that deals with helping students in the learning process for participation, cooperation, and especially for collective search for solutions to contemporary problems. This implies the development of interpersonal skills and intra-personal;
"Learning to be" - combines the three previous training and is characterized by the development of independent and critical thinking that will help in formulating their own value judgments, thus forming a national professional and prepared to act decisively and in different life circumstances. It covers the relationship of man to himself, for recognition of their limits and control your emotions, encouraging, therefore, the human self.
To achieve its training policy, the UNIME's philosophy:
"Promoting quality education through the creation and development of academic activities that consider the knowledge, skills and attitudes essential to human and professional education."
To train professionals able to exercise ethical and responsible tasks, the UNIME adopted the policy of excellence in teaching in all 20 undergraduate courses offered. All courses already assessed by the Ministry of Education (MEC) had Max Concept.
