Striding toward a half century of existence, the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of Caruaru (FAFICA) commitment to building people. This is present, since its beginnings, when it inaugurated its activities centered on teacher training, advocating humanistic principles in favor of training technically competent, ethically and politically correct and that also takes into account the protection of local cultural values.

Currently, the institution is performing its professional profile in education, management and technology. The FAFICA has focused on expansion of courses. In recent years we have set up two bachelor's, a technologist and a graduate. Has consolidated partnerships with other institutions of higher education, leading to exchange of knowledge beyond the walls of the institution. It has also invested in research and extension, contributing to the development of Caruaru and region.

This work involves appropriately qualified professionals, since it has invested in its staff of teachers (as), by encouraging the inclusion in masters and doctoral institutions duly recognized by CAPES. The in-service training is another initiative that reflects a concept of continuing education, but primarily a policy to improve educational services offered to society.

The Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters was founded in Caruaru August 9, 1960 and recognized by Decree No. 63990 of January 15, 1969. Maintained by the Association of Diocesan Education and Culture of Caruaru, FAFICA born as a response to the yearnings of people for training at the college level, institutionalizing with four degrees in: Education, Literature, History and Social Sciences.

It currently has the degree, three undergraduate courses in technology, two bachelors, postgraduate systematic, and extension courses, seminars, discussion forums and many other academic activities regularly undertaken by the institution.

With a focus on institutional mission, in line with the general socio-historical context and taking into account the social and educational demands of the regional community, the FAFICA has made a progressive investment in research, institutional and routine activity of students and teachers, associating the organically to teaching and extension.

The institution has also made effective strategic partnerships with various actors of the regional community, sensitive to the legitimate demands of the people (social movements, community organizations, schools, local universities, NGOs ..).

Keeps engines improve the quality of education offered such as: new configuration of supervised training, an annual meeting of the Teaching and Research, institutional self-evaluation, encouraging the professional qualifications of its faculty and administrative and technical promotion of post Graduate (lato sensu), in view of the qualifications of its graduates and other professionals in the regional community.

Since its founding in 1960, has a trajectory FAFICA consolidated in the educational field, in areas where it has acted, and is the target of the recognition of the region that has provided services. From this perspective has effected a mission that consists of:

- Stimulate the intellectual curiosity through reflection and scientific research;

- The formation of socially critical professional, technically competent and personally supportive;

- For the fabric of academic work, riddled with experience, knowledge exchange, technology and trends of the moment.
