University description (as per official university website)

The deployment of Higher Education in Cajazeiras represents one of the most important chapters in the history of our diocese, and had the chief protagonist Don Zacarias Rolim de Moura, founder and creator of the Foundation for Higher Education Cajazeiras - FESC.

Established on 19/01/1965, FESC comes to meet the necessity to establish a College in the Hinterland of Paraiba, aiming derimir the shortage of qualified professionals to teach the 1st and 2nd grades, and also give opportunity to young people that backland were unable to attend a college in the State Capital.

For this purpose, in 17/01/1970, was founded the School of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters Cajazeiras - FAFIC, with the largest incentive the selfless master Fr Luiz Gualberto de Andrade, of blessed memory, who spared no efforts to do it grow, extending its coverage to municipalities heartlanders other states in the Northeast, such as Pernambuco, Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte.

Given the 53 municipalities, was born FAFIC bold, initially offering 06 courses: Bachelor of 1st Degree in Social Studies and Science; Full Degree in History, Geography, Philosophy and Literature (major in English and Portuguese), which in 1976, they were all recognized. Also, in association with MEC / DAU, courses of specialization in Portuguese, English, Linguistics, History of Brazil, Ancient History, Medieval and Contemporary, and Sociology.

In 1979, as the goal of the Bishop and the Diocese was just contributing to the educational development of the High Wilderness Paraiba and help underprivileged youth, began the battle for the introduction of free education, and so all the property was donated to the FAFIC UFPB, prompting her to open the Campus V Cajazeiras which absorbed all FAFIC courses except BA in Philosophy.

Years later, faced with the necessity of graduating high school at the Seminary of Our Lady of the Assumption Cajazeiras and other dioceses surrounding the FESC, through the National Council of Education, reactivated, on 12/05/1997, the Bachelor of Philosophy.

In the wake of uprooted educational, yet highlight the presence of Don Matias Patricio de Macedo who for 10 years conducted with zeal and dedication, the fate of FESC; Dom José González Alonso, current Bishop of the Diocese and President of the FESC that given the aspirations of our vast hinterlands of the Northeast, has encouraged the creation of new courses: Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Social Work and Law and Social Sciences (Law); of Father Antonio Luiz do Nascimento, who, over a decade, took over the direction FAFIC, wisely facing the challenges posed by new educational reality.
