Created in January 1976 by the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, the Student Support Service, NCS started with the goal of developing programs based support and assistance to students who find difficulties to stay in the University because of economic problems, especially .
This concern arose from the observation of society and of the subject at issue here was that the student and their needs in its economic, social and cultural development in the region of Campinas.
Over time and with discussions around trying to improve the conditions of stay of students at the university, new ideas began to be aggregated in this context. The democratization of education and the school was one. Thinking about these questions meant to treat the university area as a place not only of learning but also the enrichment of culture, creation of new thoughts, debate, integral development of people through the full exercise of his Potentially intellectual, emotional, affective and social. Thus, the NCS has gained new dimensions and new functions.
Currently, the NCS operates in several segments, as well as social, responsible for various sectors in the University.

Among them we highlight:
1 - Service and Social Assistance Grants;
2 - Tutoring;
3 - Legal Guidance;
4 - Cultural Action;
5 - Internships, Exchanges and Job Market.

The SAE - Student Support Services - is the main body of support and assistance to the students at UNICAMP. Its programs aim to ensure that, upon entering the university, students can fully develop from a combination of quality education and an effective policy that incorporates student aid assistance regarding housing, food, transport, health, sport, culture and leisure, as well as media guidance in the areas of education, legal and labor market. The goal is to create mechanisms for access to universities for students who have financial difficulties, adjustment, among other social as well as formulating and developing the academic improvement. This type of policy has secured one of the lowest dropout rates in public higher education in Brazil.
The structure of the NCS is assembled to accompany the student from his entrance at Unicamp, completion of course, but also his first steps in the labor market after the completion of stages, from the Program Alumni (Alummi ). Currently, the NCS is tied to the Dean of Graduate Studies (PRG) as the Ordinance GR 198/98 of 30.07.1998.

The service areas of the NCS students are:
- Management Scholarship (Bolsa Work, Power, Transportation and Housing Student);
- Guidelines and Legal Education;
- Social Work;
- Project Support Academic, Social and Cultural Rights;
- Student Exchange Programs Abroad;
- Management Internship at the University, and
- Alummi Program, aimed at alumni.
