Universidade Camilo Castelo Branco
São Paulo, Brazil

University description (as per official university website)

40 years committed to the Higher Education
19 years as a university

The Unicastelo is a higher education institution whose history dates back to the eventful year of 1968 when students from around the world were manifested by changes in education and society. It was the year of the Prague Spring, the barricades of Paris and the Battle of Maria Antonia was born the School of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters. Since then, the Unicastelo maintains permanent connection to the continued advancement of education worldwide, which expresses itself in its Institutional Development Plan for the period 2006-2015.

During his nearly 40 years devoted to higher education, Unicastelo has graduated over 27,000 students on its three campuses and met thousands of people in various outreach projects it supports. The institute seeks to democratize access to the academic and professional training in higher quality standards, among other provisions enabling it to offer qualified education professionals in order to prepare competent and ethical to the labor market.

Starting from the pioneers of the 60 courses and 70, Education, Arts and Social Studies, the Unicastelo welcomes today at the headquarters campus of São Paulo, dozens of courses connected with their teaching, research and extension, articulated in the production and dissemination of knowledge, as well as in enhancing regional and national economies. Ferndale's campus offers undergraduate programs that contribute to fostering economic and social development in the region. The same is true of Descalvado campus opened in 2000, which provides courses focused on the quality of training and development of local communities.

The foundations of educational Unicastelo are cemented in history began in elementary education in 1964 with the School Camilo Castelo Branco. Today, codes Unicastelo exudes modernity and adds contemporary values sufficient to support and enrich the curricula of students and teachers.

During his educational saga, the university consolidated in 1971, creating the possibility of Economics, Accounting and Business Administration and Physical Education. The course in Business Administration was born a year later. The first courses, approved in 1971, were recognized during 1974 and Business Administration in 1975. The expansion of course offerings has grown so much that in the late '80s, the institution has had 24 undergraduate courses. No wonder in 1989, won accreditation as a university through Ordinance 374 of the Ministry of Education.

In May 2005 the new Board Unicastelo set forth, from then on, the process of adapting to the Decree of the University Bridge, published in the Official Gazette on 05.10.2006. In 2006, held its first meeting of Higher Council CONSUN (University Council) and Consep (Board of Education, Research and Extension), collegiate bodies of senior management members of the university, which serves the real effective functioning of the university statutes, its PPI (Institutional Educational Project) and their IDP (Institutional Development Plan), required, by law, for the accreditation of any educational institution with the Ministry of Education and vital tools for development and growth of the University.

Finally, one should note that the Unicastelo was the first university in the country to file the regulatory documents, already adjusted to the new demands of the MEC. In fact, in the process of setting regulations, establishing from the outset, the committee for assessment and update status which, in addition to school policies, brings innovative plan for a teaching career. It is important that the identity of Unicastelo be strengthened and shared among all members of your community, that pride is not restricted to academic redemption of significant moments in history, but find encouragement in the construction of permanent mechanisms of memory for the future university. This is not to replace the tradition, but to invent a gift based on the symbiosis between theory and practice.

The mission of Unicastelo is offering, growing and sustainable, contemporary higher education committed to formation of ethical subjects, socially responsible and qualified for the world of work and citizenship that will contribute to improving the quality of life.
