The commitment to regional development undertaken by the University Vale do Rio Doce (Univale) is reflected in their activities. Daily, Univale works to meet the needs of the community, reaffirming their identity as the University Community. This is how she qualifies as a partner in the local productive sector for the promotion of social, economic and environmental.
Since its inception in 1967, when the embryo was still Univale Mining Institute of Technology (MIT), Percival Farquhar Foundation (PFF) is present in the history of this building Higher Education Institution (HEI). The Univale reflects the achievement of the dream long pursued by pioneers who, with eyes on the future, constitute a known University in the regional consolidated.
Teaching, Research and Extension are the basis of Univale who is always focused on the formation of qualified professionals for the job market. Offering an academic structure in line with this objective, the Univale maintains more than 30 undergraduate degrees, offering extension courses and graduate Sensu Lato.
The Univale also has two master's programs. The MSc in Biological Sciences, launched in 2005, is the concentration area Immunopathology of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases. Already a Masters in Integrated Planning reflects the avant-garde vision of Univale through an interdisciplinary approach pioneer and unique in the country, launched in 2008.

Distributed on two campuses, the Univale now has an area of almost 750 thousand square meters utilized for the development of various academic activities. On Campus Armando Vieira and the operation of some courses, we have the Technical School of Univale (ETEIT) and the headquarters of the Foundation Percival Farquhar, the University maintains.
The integration of teaching, research and extension are reflected in places like the Sports Center Univale (CEU). With a complete infrastructure for sports, the CEU is lab courses in Physical Education and Physiotherapy, housing projects, community action, research centers, and is open to the academic community that is interested in practicing sports.
Other areas of the University are open for events in the local community. The auditoriums are pioneers in building multimedia environments, air conditioned and comfortable to hold meetings. The Cultural Center Hermírio Gomes da Silva, with the capacity to almost a thousand people, is home to major events and cultural activities. In the Center of Exhibitions and Events guabiroba Vicente, the Unicentro are performed major events like the Festival of East Enterprise Miner (Expol).
The Library and Dr. Geraldo Vianna Cross Sector Library have a collection consisting of materials in various formats such as books, pamphlets, dissertations, monographs, standards, periodicals, maps, CD's, DVD's, videotapes, and databases that can be obtained by students through the Internet. This collection covers various fields of knowledge, with concentration areas in the institution of courses totaling about 80,000 titles and 113,000 copies.
The Univale brings the tradition of more than 40 years of experience in higher education in Governador Valadares. The quality and excellence of education offered by the University are reflected in the labor market, where the institution graduates in positions of success.
