The University of Mogi das Cruzes has dozens of courses whose content and methods of teaching and learning are continually updated and improved. Currently 60% of UMC's faculty consists of teachers and doctors, many of whom develop important scientific projects. The year was 1962 when Professor Manoel Bezerra de Melo created in the city of Mogi das Cruzes, an elementary school, which then was still called "gymnasium." There began the Organization Mogiana of Education and Culture - OME. In 1964, they were first installed colleges of education complex which, since 1973, became the University of Mogi das Cruzes (UMC). Pioneering tradition and mark the more than forty years history of the institution. Throughout this period, the UMC has been preparing his students, now numbering approximately 20 000 campuses and Mogi das Cruzes Villa-Lobos/Lapa for the demands of the labor market and the exercise of citizenship.
