Founded in 1908, under the motto of the Institute Gammon "Dedicated to the glory of God and Human Progress", the Agricultural School of Lavras, then College of Agriculture of Lavras (ESAL) and today, Federal University of Lavras (UFLA) , is a living example of achieving the ideals of its founder, Dr. Samuel Rhea Gammon, and its first director, Dr. Benjamin Harris Hunnicutt.

In a century of existence, the Federal University of Lavras was consolidated by its pioneering extension - promoted the First Exhibition National Agricultural Exhibition and the First Corn of the State of Minas Gerais, introduced the first air silo for storing grain in the state and also one of the first tractors to plow land in Brazil, and edited the first magazine of Minas Gerais directed to farmers - by the extraordinary generation of scientific and technological knowledge, but above all, the quality of teaching in their students, which , major raison d'Ítre of the institution, have been formed over the years, key players of proven excellence of the University.

The Federal University of Lavras - UFLA before Escola Superior de Agricultura de Lavras - ESAL, founded in 1908, during almost a century of existence, established itself for its pioneering in the extension and the extraordinary generation of scientific and technological knowledge. Over the years, UFLA has provided a quality education and excelling as an institution of excellence in Brazil and worldwide.
