Centro Universitário Hermínio Ometto de Ararras
Araras, Brazil

University description (as per official university website)

The Regional Foundation for Higher Education in Araras (cutter) and established on July 5, 1973 in the character of municipal foundation, under the law no 1041, arose from the joint efforts and aspirations of four key representatives of society - Dr. Herminio Ometto, Professor Jair Della Coletta, then mayor of Araras, Dr. and Dr. Lauro Roberto Mercatello Michielin - with the sole purpose of creating, installing, maintaining and promoting the expansion of upper-level courses, it targets the cultural, scientific, technical, social and economic development, particularly for fields more directly related to health and human improvement and the area of research and extension.

Governed by statute, the foundation declared a public utility municipal, state and federal non-profit in 1975, 1978 and 1998, respectively, and certified by the National Council of Social Welfare (CNAS) as a philanthropic organization, is administered by Your Board and supervised by its Board of Trustees, without governmental interference, and has, therefore, administrative and economic-financial.

In principle, was installed in a building in the Belvedere in Araras. Years later, in 1978, moved to its new facility, built on land donated by St. John Plant and Antonio Luiz Sayão psychiatric clinic, with full support from both their representatives and other community members.

Dr. Herminio chaired the Board until 1986, the year of his death, at which time the institution was renamed Foundation Herminio Ometto (FHO), in his honor. Later, he assumed his presidency D. Duse Ometto Ruegg, wife of Dr. Herminio, whose dedication over the years has been invaluable and loyal.

Since its establishment, FHO, whose stated mission is to promote the expansion of education and the research and extension, and thus contribute to the technical-scientific development, sociocultural and economic clout, it is stated ideals and philanthropic ethical principles of those who gave him life, transferring those same ideals and principles, so valuable to the full achievement of this mission, everyone who in one way or another are involved with our institution.

The history of the University Center Herminio Ometto (UNIARARAS), private higher education institution, pluricurricular, nonprofit, goes hand in hand with the history of our sponsor, the Foundation Herminio Ometto (formerly Regional Foundation for Higher Education Araras - Fresa) , so called since 1986, in honor of our patron, Dr. Herminio Ometto.

The creation of the Mill, in 1973, approval of the first college by the State Education Council (EEC) passed only ten months. The Faculty of Life Sciences, the first to be pled, it was initially installed in the Belvedere in Araras. Years later, precisely in 1978, we already had its own structure and advanced facilities, today in its most extended.

From 1979 to 1986, add to the School of Biological Sciences three other colleges - Nursing and Midwifery, Pharmacy and Dentistry and Biochemistry - which are now named in 1997 from Union College Foundation Herminio Ometto (UNIARARAS).

In 1999, three more colleges are deployed - Physical Education, Physiotherapy and Psychology. Two years later, UNIARARAS, has been appointed as the University Center Herminio Ometto, then win more autonomy in setting up courses. That same year, in August 2001, it created the Office of Education (ISE), which today brings together, in addition to the Faculty of Education, degrees in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, deployed when it was created, two courses in the form of education distance - the Normal Superior Outside Headquarters (now Education) and School Management.

In 2002, UNIARARAS takes another step at this point toward higher education courses in technology, deploying ten courses in the following order: Aesthetics, Environmental Sanitation and Management, Computer Networks, Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Chemical Process, Materials, Food, Information Systems and Quality Management and Productivity.

In all these years, has grown UNIARARAS unbridled, revealing the aspirations of our forebears. In addition to expanding more of its installations, it multiplies into several other cities, reflecting and keeping pace with today's course to distance learning, modernizes itself, offering new options for undergraduate, graduate and extension, and solidifies as a center of scientific research. This is the UNIARARAS Today, that (a) invite you to learn!

The UNIARARAS reaping the fruits of their many ventures and what was and has been carefully planted so far in various sectors of the campus. Under both the educational and social, our performance has proved to be promising.

With the firm intention to contribute to the educational, professional qualification and socio-cultural development not only of our host city, Macaws, but other regions - through undergraduate courses in Education, Humanities, Health, Technology, and Systems Engineering, and distance education (ODL) and postgraduate courses and research projects - we invest all efforts and resources on constant training coordinators, supervisors and faculty, to expand our facilities, upgrading equipment , R & D, publications and media specific to distance learning and various institutional programs and philanthropic partnerships with high social impact, which benefit all of our internal projects.

In this latter sphere, in order to integrate university and society, we entered into several partnerships with health institutions, education and social advancement, and develop various activities extended to the community through projects and service programs provided with infrastructure and physical resources, materials and humans. Examples include programs for dental care, physiotherapy, psychological, laboratory, outpatient and home care (home care). Among our curricular and non curricular activities, we recorded approximately 300 000 calls directed to more than 100 000 beneficiaries.

Even in the social field, the UNIARARAS in partnership with the USJ - Usina São João, in the project plant Saber, and the Association of Education of Man Tomorrow Araras (AEHD), supports and guides the Isis Project (Education for Social Inclusion and Health), intended for children, adolescents and youth in need.

With the institution of the University for All Program (Prouni), we have also offered through the Foundation Herminio Ometto (FHO), a significant number of scholarships for all undergraduate courses.

For our significant and growing number of students - over 14 000 in total, including undergraduate, graduate and extension - we are always investing in the expansion of our fixed installations - 391.000m ² distributed in the campus, currently with 36.000m ² built and an arboretum with 5,500 trees native trees - and the expansion of our mobile facilities in the cities covered with EAD.

At present, UNIARARAS has 29 undergraduate courses, 86 courses of post-graduation courses and two courses of MSc in Biomedical Sciences and Dentistry, recognized by the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Level Personnel (Capes), and the University the Golden Age (Unimid). In the area of Education, Humanities, Health, Technology, Engineering and Systems, offer respectively - Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Education. - Administration, Accounting and Psychology. - Biology, Biomedical and Physical Education (BA and BS), Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Dentistry. - Food, Esthetics, Financial Management, Management of Industrial Production, Quality Management, Human Resource Management, Logistics, Marketing, Process Chemicals, Computer Networks and Environmental Sanitation. - Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Production Engineering. - Information Systems. In the distance, outside of headquarters, UNIARARAS offers three undergraduate courses, namely: Administration, Education and Management Processes, and 3 Graduate courses, which are: Inclusive Education, Early Childhood Education and Educational Psychology.

We have many resources for infrastructure deployment and maintenance of courses (and distance), projects and activities in research and postgraduate studies, including faculty, laboratories, technology, computers, study rooms and library. In computing, we now have four special laboratories and largely equipped to serve our students. In research, three cores are in full swing since 2004: the Nucia, environmental science, the Nucisa, health sciences, and the Nutec, education and technological development. As part of initiation, we offer our students the basic scientific research (PIC), which, depending on the line of research, can afford the projects submitted. Furthermore, we are implementing a project of broad scope: the Board of Graduate Studies and Research, composed of several sublayers.

This is therefore the UNIARARAS Today, consolidated by the joint efforts of FHO, our governing body, for our engineers, supervisors and faculty, and our other employees.
