History
In the mid-60s, in Barra do Pirai, a man with an entrepreneurial spirit decided to face a challenge: to deploy in southern Fluminense an institution of higher education, a pioneer in the region. Emerged as the Educational Foundation Rosemar Pimentel, the FERP, created by then-state Rep. Geraldo Di Biase on November 9, 1967 as the holding of the colleges that would be installed next.
The Name
The name of the Foundation was chosen as a tribute to one of the most respected and dedicated educators in the state, Rosemar Muniz Pimentel, a pioneer in the installation of secondary education in Barra do Pirai.
Building Campus
Built the keeper was now beginning a new phase: the construction of its own campus to house the faculties and effective implementation of the courses.
The site chosen for the installation of the first unit of 11 km FERP was Benjamin Ielpo Highway, the road from Barra do Pirai to Valencia, the former St. Joseph's Farm Boa Vista, where he worked before a seminary for priests.
The first buildings housed the courses of the faculties of Philosophy, Sciences and Arts and Architecture of Barra do Pirai, both operate by the State Board of Education of the State of Rio in 1968. And later that year, the FERP starts its expansion with the installation of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, authorized by the governing board.
Taking teaching to other municipalities
At that time, despite the short time of operation, the courses have attracted students from Rio de Janeiro and even other states, a win that sparked a new challenge: to take action educator FERP to other municipalities.
Continuing its expansion and spreading the motto "Educate to create opportunities," the FERP arrives in the 70 to Volta Redonda, with the implementation of the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters, and New Delhi, with the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
Recognition
Among the most popular courses at the time, the Architecture and Urbanism, the FERP was the first institution to offer in the particular state. Proof of this success was seen in 1973, the most important Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, who visited the campus in Barra do Pirai for a brilliant conference and left his praises registered facilities, course curriculum, faculty and especially the high level of students of the Faculty.
Was the result of a concern that the FERP had at that time: to provide its students with quality education, adequate facilities, a library with extensive collection available and laboratories with latest equipment for the practical application of knowledge gained in the classroom.
Integration
The integration between students and FERP was complete, because the academic life was not just to study. The cultural and sports activities promoted both students and mobilized the whole society in the region, and are important chapters in this success story.
They stayed in my memory the music festivals and sports tournaments, where FERP emerged as a powerhouse in several local and state tournaments in various sports.
All of these actions - always with education as a basic principle - the name of the consolidated FERP, an institution that launches the new achievements in pursuit of continuous improvement.
Growth
On September 15, 2003, the Minister of Education, Cristovam Buarque, approved changes in the bylaws of the FERP Integrated College, which changed its name to Integrated Schools Geraldo Di Biase, honoring the pioneering Mr. Geraldo Di Biase. In June 2005, FGB was accredited by the MEC to turn into University Center.
