The Society for Cultural Development of the Amazon - Sodeco, established in 1991, is the sponsor of the University Center North (UNINORTE), accredited on 14 April 2004 by Decree no. 995/2004.
The UNINORTE comes from the Cultural Institute of Education of the Amazon - ICES, whose activities began in 1998 with the introduction of courses in Social Work and Social Communication in Advertising. The UNINORTE received, by absorption, the courses in Data Processing Technology and Tourism Manauara given by the Institute of Higher Education and Administration course with emphasis on systems analysis provided by the Amazonian Institute for Higher Education, both beginning in 1994. With the inclusion of these courses, we can say that the institution now has 12 (twelve) years of activities.
The UNINORTE currently provides 40 (forty) courses / qualifications / procedures at the undergraduate level and operates in the following areas: Exact Sciences and Earth and Engineering - Life Sciences and Health - and - Social Sciences and Humanities, scheduled the work, too in the area of Agricultural Sciences.
The UNINORTE, since its inception has developed courses and extension activities, including municipalities in the interior of Amazonas state, and in 2001 started to offer post-graduation courses, having been taught to date, 68 courses, areas Architecture, Library Science, Biology, Information Science, Science, Humanities, Media, Accounting, Software Development, Law, Economics, Education, Physical Education, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, Geography, Management, History, Literature, Pedagogy Psychology, Executive Secretary, Social Services and Tourism.
With the gradual implementation of its courses, has been developing research activities and
basic scientific research, according to their institutional policy.
Although a young institution, has won recognition as an important social
appliance maker professional, playing a key role in this area. Absorb on its board former professionals from the various courses run by the institution.
Because of its expansion, the institution, to better understand their courses, now has eight (8)
academic units, and other facilities such as the Legal Office, Service
Applied Psychology, the animal facilities - Centre for Animal Experimentation of the Villa Verde Training Center, the Cultural Space of the Theatre UNINORTE Professor Mary Lamb Hercilia Tribuzy of Magellan and a boat school. Maintains 85% of their teaching units in the City of Manaus where he implemented significant changes in the development and positive social, economic, cultural and architectural site.
Mission
The University Center North provides its customers quality higher education to acquire values, skills and abilities that enable it to exercise their citizenship with better conditions of employment, and are guided by the quest for a sustainable development model.
Future vision
Being recognized as a center of excellence in serving the educational needs of the north, following and anticipating the changes that occur in it and promoting innovative and effective action with a view to understanding, interpretation, preservation, enhancement, promotion and dissemination of national cultures and from a regional context of pluralism and cultural diversity.
Global orientation
The vocation of the University Center North is centered on two basic lines. The first axis responds to the vocation of the university itself, that is, the inseparability of Education and Research which is to focus on education as a pursuit of knowledge construction in action, without forgetting, however, the multiplication of knowledge.
The second axis responds to the call of the Amazon: the proposal of sustainable development, converging education, knowledge production and the extension for this purpose. Thus, in his own name, the University Center North expressed his vocation. |
