University description (as per official university website)

The message that the president wanted and that januarenses Manoel de Almeida referred to our president Juscelino Kubtischek was the creation of the School Agrotechnical Januaria. It was approaching the feast day of the centenary and the message was missing at the tangle of bureaucratic formalities of Catete Palace .

Manuel was not a person to wait, and there would be protocol or markup hearings that would hold it at that point for us to fast track the process of creating the School Agrotechnical. So it was definitely straight to the Palace, joined the Office of the President, and when she saw him, soon was saying

- Chairman, if Your Honor wants to really create the School Agroténica Januaria to present the city in celebration of its centennial, it is necessary to take other measures. For now, the measures directed not reached their goal.

The president surprised the warning that riverside dweller and assertive, very seriously, says:

Member, you are able to reconstitute now, here in my room the whole time?

Yes, President, since your excellency determines.

For sit there - (and pointed to a chair Manuel, the back of the room) - when finished, come talk to me again.

Manuel, with that huge facility to make laws, projects and opinions prepared immediately post presidencyl, even including the explanatory memorandum for the referral of that decision to presidential competence.

Foi à sala ao lado e, tranquilamente, colocou o documento nas mãos do presidente Juscelino.

-Amanhã, às seis horas da tarde, este documento estará na Câmara dos Deputados -afiançou-lhe, com certa solenidade, o Presidente Manoel confiara no Presidente, mas seguiu pari passu a tramitação do processo;

E, finalmente, a publicação do ato.

"The least needy or abandoned by parents, unassisted, is heading to the inadequacies of commonly conduct future offenders, but to get shelter in a school, preferably rural, will become a farmer, or any other professional activity in honest who specializes in primary school and then it will become a useful citizen to society. Thus, if the crime-fighting, in origin, many years before the disease occurs, and without any prosecution. " (Almeida, Márcia de Souza - Sowing and Reaping - preface, reviewed by Col. Saul Martinez) fragamento that expresses this thought and social commitment to the protagonist of this story.

Back then, in 1960, the School of Agrotechnical Januaria born timidly, in order to allow the egress of the Caio Martins School completion of their studies, ie, students would make the first series, then that school would continue in education, Agricultural School.

Under the Ministry of Agriculture, a body responsible for the first building, located just inside the entrance, the School Agrotechnical Januaria, was the first director Professor Firmino Siqueira Soares, indicated by the Superintendent of Agricultural Education and Veterinary SEAV / MA, being structured by the molds Decree No. 21667 of 20/08/46 and Decree-Law No. 9614 of 20/8/1946, to the enactment of Law No. 4024 of December 20, 1961, Law of Directives and Bases of National Education.

Once deployed, the recently inaugurated as soon as the school would fit in the new law of education guidelines and assemble a physical structure and minimum adequate to allow the start of operations. In fact, it was the tiny physical infrastructure and teaching staff of this insituition, contrasting with great challenges, since it had just over 05 buildings, which were installed for General Managers, classrooms, dining hall and dormitories. The school initially characterized by informality. Students are not historical or certificates received by the year 1964 when, in fact, began to administer the Fund the secondary school, with enrollment of the first class in boarding schools, serving students from the community januarense of the entire region of Valley of San Francisco and other states. That same year, by Presidential Decree, No. 53,558, of 13/02/164, School Agrotechnical Januaria began to be called Agricultural College, whose name is still present to this day, still occasionally be seen a place in society and others use the expression, Agricultural College, "one student, studying in the Agricultural College, Agricultural College in going there, will you try the competition of the Agricultural College?

Still in its beginning, the School Agrotechnical Januaria emerges as a reference for teaching, due to the commitment of the leadership and their servants, both teachers and technical administrators and the experiences gained through visits to other schools in the state as Machado, Bambuí and Muzaffarpur, and Universities as of Lavras and Viçosa. Hardly knowing them, who have collaborated for the School, in little more than four decades to become a Federal Center for Technological Education, a regional vocational and technical education.

Upon the facts, the story is long and, consequently, major challenges have already been covered, proving that every effort to promote education ennobles those who participate and engage in this process. All progress and growth in the federal system of technical education, the advent of the transformation of CEFETs, Agrotechnical Schools and Technical Institutes Universities linked to the Federal Education, Science and Technology, is undoubtedly something so extraordinary that only the future will take care of tell us. "... In the future if she can, she herself will tell their story" (Colonel Manoel José de Almeida).
