The history of St. Joseph School is viscerally tied to the story of its founder Prof. José Antonio Zaib, emeritus educator who began his labors in teaching in the mid 40s. After obtaining recognition as a teacher early in his career, decided to found in 1955, the College Don Oton Motta, Felipe to the Av Cardoso,. 329, Santa Cruz, where he had one of their leaders as one of his brothers and count on the support of educators emeritus, as Prof. Lafayette Belfort Garcia, Professor. Francisco Gama Lima and Bishop Oton Motta, having pioneered the private school of Santa Cruz, Rio de Janeiro, becoming a reference for quality education in the region.

The second educational institution, college, River Plate, also became, under his direction, a large primary school in the neighborhood of Bangu, Rio de Janeiro, not only for its facilities but also the quality and efficiency of education provided by exquisite faculty.

Since that time, Professor. José Antonio Zaib launched the idea of founding, that Administrative Region, the St. Joseph School, which would serve large geographic area suburb of Rio, that idea did not come to fruition at the time because it had had to devote himself exclusively to the College Realengo , itself founded in 1970.

Pursuing the same goal as an educator, decided Prof. José Antonio Zaib fight for foundation, today's well established, St. Joseph School This initiative driven by the winning thesis of the Congress of Health held in Gramado / RS, back in 1970, who predicted as major cause of the chaos in the health and social security, the lack of professional "Hospital Administrator" wherever used in first world countries.

Passionate about the pioneering work of launching the job market, unexplored, a professional hospital administration and serve the nation in order to improve health services, sought support from friends and experts on the subject of the need to undertake such a work. With such enthusiasm, was founded on October 10, 1974 Society for Education and Assistance Realengo - SEARA, nonprofit civil association, with headquarters at Rua Marechal Andréa Smith in 1990, Realengo and venue in the city of Rio de Janeiro. From this, the CFE obtained authorization for operation of the Hospital Management Course, and the subsequent recognition of the course, keeping up to date, groundbreaking and unique, this qualification at undergraduate level in the State of Rio de Janeiro.

The institution has tried hard to ensure place in the labor market professionals competent and responsible, immediately absorbed by public and private sectors. The services provided by professionals has brought prosperity to the places of his role leading the city of Rio de Janeiro to offer paid internships semester, the students of the institution as well as requesting unpaid interns.

In 1989, the institution's work gained public recognition in the form of a "MOTION " issued by the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro, confirming their important social work.

In 2001, the Society of Realengo Education and Assistance, which maintains the St. Joseph School, was recognized as an Institution of Municipal Utilities in the law 3.293/01.

Also in 2001, the work of Professor José Antonio Zaib on behalf of education was crowned with his appointment by the Legislature of the State of Rio de Janeiro, endorsed by The Honourable Mr. Governor Anthony Garotinho, the State Board of Education of the State of Rio de January, where he currently holds the position of Director.

Colleges San Jose, an institution which has operated since 1980, has nine courses, expanding its activities. The investment capacity, seriousness and interest of the institution may be seen in the outcomes of their courses as well as on concrete actions for sustainable regional development.

These are the reasons which, in our view, the Colleges accredit St. Joseph to continue, with courage and pride in its institutional mission, contributing to the evolution and development of the community in which it operates, through its courses.

Being identified as a reference in the State of Rio de Janeiro in the quality of teaching and the issue of sustainable development and its implications on training of professionals who possess the skills and competencies necessary for the articulation of social, economic, environmental and legal, whether in the public or private.

Contributing to the economic and social development locally and regionally, through the formation of citizens and professionals innovative, entrepreneurial, socially responsible and ethical, concerned with the environment and sustainable development, in the exercise of their skills and professional and personal skills.
