The Baptist College of Amazonas (ESBAM) which was established in 2000, is the first Baptist college established in Brazil to secular teaching. The first courses were offered Literature, Pedagogy, Mathematics and Sciences.

Currently ESBAM is directed to the areas of Education and Health Services, offering degrees in Business Administration (International Market) Accounting, Biology, Law, Literature (Language and Literature, English or Spanish), Mathematics, Veterinary Medicine , Education (Educational Supervision, Teaching of Early Childhood Education, Early Years of Elementary Education and Educational Guidance), Psychology (Human and Organizational Development and Clinical), Social Services and Information Systems (Computers).

The next step is to be transformed the institution in the University Center.

On May 26, 2009, was created by the appointment of the Director General of ESBAM, the Ethics Committee on Animal Use (CEUA-ESBAM) to meet the demands of society by collecting ethics and respect for animals. In addition to fulfilling this role in society, CEUA-ESBAM meets legal requirements (Federal Council Resolutions of Veterinary Medicine, No 875/2007, No 877/2008, No 879/2008, law n.1.794/2008; law No 5.517/68) regarding the use of animals in practical classes, research and events. Thus, ESBAM is a pioneer in the northern region to have a CEUA duly registered and authenticated in accordance with current legislation.

Thus, all activities (lectures, research, events etc). ESBAM where the executor or collaborator is held inside or outside the institution, when the use of animals are first examined by CEUA ESBAM-by to fill in form own project and submission as provided in the Rules of Procedure.

The CEUA-ESBAM is registered in the Brazilian Society of Laboratory Animal Science / SBCAL (COBEA old), and is currently undergoing registration in the Federal Council of Veterinary Medicine and even the National Council for Control of Animal Experiments.
