The Catholic University of Santiago del Estero (UCSE) is an institution created by a group of lay Catholics in collaboration with the Congregation of the Brothers of Mercy and that since 1960 worked in the field of education, committed to evangelism culture and to serve the Church and Nation.

The UCSE, as an institution of culture, born in June 1960. Since its inception was conceived as a Catholic institutional presence to meet the needs of the provincia.La UCSE is an institution of Civil UCSE Association, a nonprofit entity without state subsidy, and has academic and institutional autonomy agreement with current legislation.

The UCSE's mission: to research, study, teach and disseminate the cultural heritage of the region and the cultural features of human civilization. Its main objective is to give younger generations a solid integral in the pursuit of truth and goodness.

Creation and Empowerment

In the second half of the twentieth century the four hundred year old city of Santiago del Estero was born a long awaited desire: the creation of a House of Studies, which by the inspiration of a group of lay Catholics committed to their community, with the help of the Congregation of the Brothers of Mercy, and the blessing of the bishop, then projects the foundation of the Instituto Universitario "San José".

Thus a 21 June 1960 opens the San Jose Institute of Political Sciences, Social and Economics. This institution would be born in a particular historical moment within a particular socio-cultural fabric and respond to questions from a group of people whose primary objective was to provide young santiagueños higher studies at university level, to prevent the exodus to the provinces outside.

The first school began operations in 315 Liberty Street, San Jose headquarters of the College dependent on the Brothers of Our Lady of Mercy, a religious community that came up today the destinies of this university.

Great was the challenge to begin forming a community college that started with the enactment of the careers of Political and Social Sciences and Business Administration.

On May 15, 1961, by decree of the Most Illustrious vicar of the cathedral of the Diocese Bishop Francis Dubrovich, is vested in the Institute ecclesiastical approval of its statutes and by order Serie A No. 1960 of November 13, 1961, the Superior Government of the Province gives legal status.

Aware of many concerns and real needs of the environment, the university has grown by responding positively to society. In 1962 The School of Psychology career with kindergarten, education specialty area lacking in our county.

Venues of the UCSE and its contribution to regional development
