Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina Santa María de los Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires, Argentina

University description (as per official university website)

The Church urges renewed strength with the urgent task of the evangelization of culture and cultures. The Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina, formed by the bishops of Argentina as a public legal person canonical, it recognizes itself in this endeavor privileged instrument of evangelization, as the clear teachings of Vatican II, the Code of Canon Law, the Apostolic Constitution "Ex Corde Ecclesiae" and the decree of the Episcopal Conference of Argentina regulating its application, the document "Presence of the Church in the University and the University Culture", among other magisterial documents.

The mission of the university is the constant search for truth through research, conservation and communication of human knowledge for the good of society (Ex Corde Ecclesiae, 30), within a framework of academic excellence, leadership in the field of knowledge and community involvement.

At the same time, the University, as Catholic studies and lessons have to perform and teach in light of the Faith, that is, the recognition of Revealed Truth, so that the business is headed and inspired by that truth, which is found in Sacred Scripture and Tradition, with the guidance of the Magisterium of the Church by divine institution, is his teacher and custody (ECE 27). Therefore, the Catholic faith permeates:

research and teaching
training of members of the university community and
the mission of service and commitment to society and the Church.

The University organizes education and comprehensive training to prepare youth and all those with university vocation, the specific role of culture, scientific research, the ministry of teaching in higher education and the liberal professions, nursing to promote both their scientific expertise, professional, artistic or technical, the university and higher culture, making it able to exercise their vocation in a straight competition and Catholic sense of one's duties and to fulfill dirigencial role in society.

By its very identity, the Catholic University must provide an adequate response to serious contemporary problems, particularly in Argentina and regional reality in the complex field of modern intellectual culture, discovering in the revealed word of God a question, a mandate and a livelihood.

The University seeks to achieve "a presence, so to speak, public, continuous and universal of Christian thought in any effort to promote high culture and also to train men famous for learning, ready to play responsible roles in society and to witness their faith in the world "(Vatican II, Gravissimum Educationis, n. 10).

As an institution of the Episcopal Conference of Argentina, the Universidad Católica Argentina, as he was eventually asked by the diocesan bishop, to the extent of their capabilities and compliance with the rules of canon and civil, may create schools throughout the country except the conditions of reasonableness and academic and economic feasibility of each project.

For all this, be constituted as an authentic community, ie, human space vitalized by faith that provides a balanced and integral development of the individual.

In its mission, the University is animated by an evangelical missionary spirit of openness and pluralism. Therefore it must provide the environment where the promotion of dialogue between believers and nonbelievers, without sacrificing the truth, the greatest charity.

In short, the Catholic University of Argentina has to offer comprehensive training, to undertake the synthesis of excellence in professional and social commitment from a humanistic-Christian worldview.

The UCA is designed to meet the challenges of today's world by providing what is proper in:

University: Working through research, thought and teaching in the service of man.
To this end, promotes the examination of reality with the methods of the different disciplines and integrates them into the necessary dialogue between faith and reason. Such integration is inserted in the sciences is not merely a question of epistemology is fundamentally an insert into reality.
The constant search for quality and excellence from the academic point of view provides training for professionals who, by teachers willing to develop themselves and updated constantly and are focused on the research to provide solutions to the problems of the country.

Catholic: As such, try to keep their identity and maintain a living presence of the Church and its message of salvation in college and in culture. Act according to Christian values translated into an ethical mode of relating, means a commitment that takes a lifetime and projects personally and socially.
Catholic University is an open university that seeks to enrich the diversity and respectful dialogue, which is the professional training not only provides efficient technical solutions to community problems, but also the citizen and the leader honest.

Argentina: It is proposed to meet the needs of modern man, his face visible, embedded in the nation and the world. The University must be present in many different areas offering answers from the teaching, research and reflection and not ever losing sight of real meaning they charge when they can be applied to specific challenges.

To fulfill its mission, Catholic University of Argentina, under the Institutional Project 2001-2006, has set several lines of action, among which are:

The University's mission is to permeate the entire structure vitally and reflected in each of its activities, so that is established as a center of higher learning, according to more rigorous conception of a real university, with research teams, teaching and excellent service made up of qualified teachers and scholars to prepare young people to exercise their vocation in a straight competition and Catholic sense of duty.
The dialogue between science and faith, designated as priority by the Church, must assume the entire university, primarily in the regular course of teaching and research, and through concrete action to promote effective integration of knowledge. Particularly, it will promote courses, conferences, seminars and research, primarily through the Institute for the Integration of Knowledge and each of the Faculties. The Faculties of Theology and Philosophy have to play a key role in this field.
Philosophical and theological subjects should be implemented and articulated in conjunction with specific disciplines, so that they respond to the unity of knowledge and comprehensive training of the student. Be present in the curricula of different races so that they are actually training. On the occasion of the renewal of curricula, the Institute of Culture and University Extension will form a commission to study this issue and raise its findings to the Board of Governors.
To form a true university community meetings are to be promoted and spiritual, pastoral, cultural, social and recreational activities for students, teachers, graduates, managers and administrators. Special attention deserves the integration of learners in the Federal Capital and headquarters from inside the country. To this end, we have to seek convergent action of the Institute for Spirituality and Ministry and academic units, especially through the guardians of the first years of study and design of common integration activities, such as setting courses the activities of the Cultural Center of the University, etc.
Sports and arts activities will be promoted as valuable tools for a whole-person development and integration of the university community.
