IUNA as an institution was a result of various factors (historical, political, educational, artistic and social) which brought together-finally-in the same time and place, in late '96.
It was created by National Executive Decree 1404 - 03/12/1996 and was the realization of a long-delayed project whose approach was to transform art education in college depends on the nation based in the City of Buenos Aires. This transformation was not just a formal matter, but sought the hierarchy of art education art recognized as a generator of knowledge. Thus, seven prestigious conservatories, schools and tertiary institutions and colleges of art, the National Conservatory of Music "Carlos López Buchardo" National School of Fine Arts Prilidiano Pueyrredón "School of Fine Arts of the Nation" Ernesto Cárcova ", the National Higher Institute of Ceramics, National School of Drama" Antonio Cunill Cabanellas, the Superior National Dance Institute and the National Superior de Folklore - formed the capital that was created IUNA. In turn, the incorporation of new artistic languages, as well as specific training for teachers and critics who specialize in different disciplines became essential to the creation and operation of four new units dedicated to teacher training, a multimedia arts to visual arts and art criticism.
The union of the seven historic institutions plus new areas results in a completely innovative proposal, not only in Argentina but in Latin America and even in the world - which sought to bring art education to the needs of the new century. The proposal seeks to facilitate the interaction between the various arts, respect for differences in each area but leveraging the endless border crossings between the two language. In this sense, the possibility of living together in a single institution students of Music, Theatre, Film, Visual Arts, Dance, Multimedia, etc.. aims to foster and promote a genuine sharing the development of each of the following disciplines will inevitably entail.
