J. Vitols Latvian Academy of Music of its existence nearly a hundred years has made a Latvian musical life in significant composers, performers and music theorists. We're the only music university in the country and are responsible for both traditions, which were formed before the establishment of the Academy and its future development.
Latvian musical life in the high professionalism has created J. Vitols Latvian Academy of Music, outstanding teachers and talented students. They listen to and familiar with Latvian and beyond.

We are proud of our achievements and believe that studying and working in J. Vitols Latvian Academy of Music is a great honor. We pay great attention to study quality - in addition to performing, choreography, musicology and composition studies teach students to think independently, analyze and evaluate. J. Vitols Latvian Academy of Music, initially - the Latvian Conservatoire, was founded in the 1919th year-end. Its first rector was the composer Joseph Willow. Quarter of a century he headed the Latvian Conservatoire and worked as a composite class professors. 1923rd was adopted in the first Latvian Conservatory constitution. At the J. Vitols for Principals become conductors and composers Paul Jozuus (1935-37), Alfred Kalnins (1944-48), Jacob Medins (1948-50), Janis Ozolins (1951-77). Broad scope and international recognition J. After World War II Latvian Conservatoire, was included in the Soviet musical educational system with all its pluses and minuses.
