About St. Olaf

Founded in 1874, St. Olaf is a national liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America with world-class programs in music and mathematics.They are also recognized for their innovative approaches to undergraduate science education, their long-standing engagement in global education and their commitment to environmental sustainability.

St. Olaf College is a private liberal arts and science college offering programs leading to a bachelor's degree (Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Music). Graduate programs are not available at St. Olaf. Located in the safe surroundings of a small town in southern Minnesota (70 km from the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport), St. Olaf offers a secure community in which to pursue a degree of higher learning.

Academics
St. Olaf offers 45 graduation majors, including 15 teaching certifications, 19 concentrations and 17 pre-professional fields with the most popular majors (in order) being: English, Biology, Mathematics, Economics, and Psychology.

St. Olaf enrolls 3,040 students representing 43 states and 19 foreign countries. First-generation college students comprise 14 percent of this year's freshman class. They typically enroll 20-30 international students each year.

Tuition & Financial Aid
The comprehensive fee for 2007-08 is $38,500, with 82 percent of students in the Class of 2001 receiving either merit or need-based financial aid. The average need-based financial aid package for first-year students was $23,700.

Degree-seeking students may apply for international scholarships that may cover up to tuition fees; average awards are half of tuition. No full scholarships are offered. Scholarships, on-campus work-study and, in some cases, loans are awarded to students who demonstrate academic excellence and economic need.
