University description (as per official university website)

Intercollege is an independent, co-educational, equal opportunity institution of higher education, which offers a wide range of programs to students from around the world.

Located on the historic island of Cyprus, the College offers programs in business, hospitality and tourism, science, education and the liberal arts leading to a Diploma or a Bachelor's degree, as well as vocational and professional programs. It also offers a selected number of graduate programs.

Intercollege, in Cyprus, at the cross-roads of three continents, is quickly becoming a global education centre. International in philosophy, the College hosts students from all over the world, in a multicultural learning environment, promoting friendship, cooperation and understanding.

The College pursues excellence in education through high teaching standards and research, in a continually improving academic environment. Besides classroom instruction, Intercollege offers students opportunities to become involved in a whole range of activities including student clubs, sports, public lectures and seminars.

Intercollege is also actively involved in the community with campaigns for various causes, including environmental protection. In recognition of this work the College has received the prestigious "Global 500" award from the United Nations. Other examples of community service include campaigns for fighting world hunger and raising funds for worthy causes. In the prison project, professors teach Computing, Art and Psychology to inmates.

Public opinion has recognized the comprehensive contribution Intercollege is making. Indeed, a local survey has found Intercollege to be "the most reputable College in Cyprus".

All the above contribute to Intercollege’s vision for the future, and are encapsulated in the College’s motto "Excellence in Education".

Mission and Objectives

The Intercollege mission is to assist students in becoming educated individuals, in achieving their academic and career goals, and assuming responsible roles in a changing world of international cooperation and interdependence.

Intercollege is international in philosophy, development and outlook. Conscious of its unique location at the crossroads of three continents, the College strives to enhance opportunities for education and understanding between people of different cultures. Intercollege aims at promoting both high academic standards and high principles of character. Students are encouraged to acquire facts and competencies in various skills, as well as to develop cultural awareness, social responsibility and personal integrity.

Fostering student-teacher involvement in learning is the most important activity at Intercollege. The faculty members are encouraged to blend academic knowledge with professional experience inside the classroom and to emphasize a personalized approach to education. Through close interaction with faculty and staff, students are helped to examine their goals, abilities, and options for the future.

The College admission policy accommodates students with varied academic abilities and aptitudes – on the condition that students achieve the minimum program requirements to graduate.

Intercollege’s programs are modelled on American and European higher education. The College is committed to maintaining standards which comply with those of Western higher education in order to provide students with diverse transfer opportunities for further study.

In pursuit of its mission, Intercollege strives to:

Offer quality, career-oriented undergraduate programs, graduate studies in selected fields, and quality professional programs
Implement the College motto “Excellence in Education” by encouraging students to strive for excellence in every activity
Remain firmly committed to the economic, social, scientific, and cultural development of Cyprus
Develop further as an international college, where Cypriot and international students, faculty, and staff are valued for their cultural diversity
Recruit and retain qualified faculty and support their development
Encourage research, publications, and creative activity
Strengthen facilities, resources, and services to provide a stimulating environment conducive to personal growth, discovery and learning
Continually review and update programs to keep pace with developments and standards in Western higher education
Enhance student communication, democratic leadership and critical thinking skills
Expand opportunities for professional and social interaction within the College

A brief History of Intercollege
Intercollege has established itself as a dynamic and respected Cyprus institution of higher education in just 25 years. It is the only college in Cyprus with a system of three campuses in the major cities of Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca.

Beginning as a small educational institution preparing Cypriots for professional examinations, Intercollege is today a vibrant international college where students of many ages, ethnic and cultural backgrounds may earn undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as professional qualifications at a significant cost advantage and, for many of them, close to home. Intercollege is the largest private college in Cyprus; its current enrolment is about 5,000 students.

The history of Intercollege is characterized by strategic growth: the systematic addition of certificate and degree programs through the Master’s level, the establishment of academic links with other universities and professional bodies, expansion to the cities of Limassol and Larnaca, the recruitment and retention of doctoral or professionally qualified faculty, an increasing emphasis on research and publications and a strategic goal to become the first and best private university in Cyprus.
