The universities of Joensuu and Kuopio in eastern Finland were merged university in early 2010.

University of Eastern Finland is one of Finland's largest science universities. The new university is about 14 000 students and it employs nearly 3000 people.

The University has campuses in Joensuu, Kuopio and Savonlinna.

Interdisciplinary university offers instruction in more than 100 major subject. There are four faculties: Faculty of philosophy, science and Forestry Sciences, Health Sciences and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Business.
