HAAGA-HELIA in a nutshell
Through education, research and development, HAAGA-HELIA prepares professionals for business and services. We offer our students a versatile choice of studies, great opportunities for specialisation, high-quality education in Finnish, Swedish and English, and wide business networks even during the studies. Our approximately 10 000 students and 600 employees at HAAGA-HELIA base their activities on highly advanced national and international expertise.
Our fields of education are business, hotel, restaurant and tourism management, information technology, journalism, management assistant training, sports management and vocational teacher education.
HAAGA-HELIA's international activities aim at giving students an opportunity to acquire skills needed in an international environment. Language and communication skills, social skills and cross cultural understanding are very important in today´s working life.
The students of HAAGA-HELIA have diverse opportunities to develop international skills. The students can complete part of the studies abroad within an exchange programme, go abroad for a work placement and study languages or cross cultural management. They can participate in international courses and projects or participate in international student organisations activities. International degree and exchange students as well as lecturers contribute to the international learning environment of HAAGA-HELIA.

Formerly, before the era of web technology, these "Quality-related pages" had been called as a "quality handbook" or "quality manual". Since word "book" refers to a concrete object the name of the entity of Internet, extranet and intranet pages is called "Quality-related pages of HAAGA-HELIA University of Applied Sciences".
On the Internet pages the general information of the elements of quality at HAAGA-HELIA is given. The Quality policy page tells the basic lines of how quality work is understood at HAAGA-HELIA and Quality assurance system how the quality work is organized in practise.
Quality policy is based on the HAAGA HELIA's vision, mission and values, which are presented on the Internet pages as well. The instruments of the quality assurance system are presented in a separate process description named Assesment Systems. In addition, all the key instruments have their own process descriptions.
In a modern big company it is possible to control the quality of processes only if the processes are well described and the quality criteria are set to them. All the actors in the company should be able to comprehend which ever process they choose by reading the process description instead of asking the co-workers' opinions of how the process goes. The complete lists of the process descriptions are on the Internet pages; by following the links the non-public process descriptions on the intranet and extranet pages can be accessed if logged on the local area network. The process description sections located on the extranet and intranet pages are storage areas which are ment for management use only; persons other than authorized managers should avoid accessing the files by using the extranet and intranet indexes straight forward.

Our strategy serves as the foundation for our development and management actions on all levels. We develop our operating culture in cooperation with students, staff, businesses and other organisations, as well as our owners and other stakeholders.
We strongly believe that quality begins with the work of each and every one of us, and we monitor and develop the quality of our education as a part of our daily management routines. Our quality level objective is very high (4/5).
HAAGA-HELIA’s quality management system comprises a solid operations control system and quality work through which we measure strategy implementation and aim to achieve efficient and outstanding operations within our university.
The quality management system involves process descriptions, which are used to identify the underlying foundation for our operating practices, feedback, which ensures the systematic monitoring of our operations, as well as development and operating plans, which are initiated on the basis of feedback received.
