What do we want

The basic idea of the university is a place of learning to be. That is, the Applied is a place of reflection and the development of ideas, of free and open discourse, a place where students acquire knowledge and skills in their fields of study. The search for reality and perception fields, the courage to experiment radically creative and critical analysis of the social environment are the focus of attention.
Applied sees her broad professional spectrum as part of their identity. With interdisciplinary project-orientation in teaching, research and development of art we want to implement our social, cultural political and economic impact claim effectively.
Project-art individual and small group instruction as processual understood accompany and support the development of artistic potentials are to remain at the center of study at the Applied.
Architecture, Visual and Media Arts, Design, Art and Cultural Studies, Art Education and Conservation and Restoration will therefore be operated at the applied not only as individual disciplines at the highest international level, but strategically harnessed to interdisciplinary networking in the study mode, in individual study projects, and in the area research and artistic development.
Art and science are not only conceptually but also in its functionality quite different. Perhaps that is why the production offers an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary connection between art and science in the form of strategic projects for both areas is enormous innovative potential. This potential is applied to the - supported by its multidisciplinary structure - based on momentum.
In the applied disciplines represented at the latest developments should not only be taught, they should go out more in the future of the Applied. The encouragement to develop a creative vision and the facilitation of artistic experiment should be applied not only to the program but rather lived and cultivated practice.
The artistic and scientific personnel in all disciplines are applied to the world's most important and successful representatives of their respective subject. This means that the applied active artists and scientists by their own work and through their appearance in the literature, in the exhibition industry, the art market and in the creative industries to an increasing extent a significant contribution to the development and appreciation of the arts and in the development of to have science.
Applied will be a dynamic institution of art becoming a cultural and political engine for Vienna and Austria and to a relevant information and competence for the disciplines represented here. The task of applied we see it in generating in the areas represented by their social future.
To issues of culture and education should clearly specify the Applied and related public positions, subjects and the work of our teachers and students do more than previously seen. We want to influence the cultural climate in Vienna, Austria. Our expertise, our future-oriented work approach and our national and international networking will make us an indispensable factor of cultural policy.
Applied will give to its graduates the foundation for exceptional professional success - in the world of art, in creative industries, in the scientific community or wherever innovative, open to criticism and cross-thinking individuals are sought. In a constantly changing world are the most important qualities with which we can help students to develop, the ability to think independently and critically, the ability to learn and the ability to change and grow. You must have the courage to act, be sensitive to the needs and emotional needs of others, understand diversity as a value and appreciate and respect the responsibility that comes with specialized knowledge and power.
