Study at the Medical University of Vienna
The outsourcing of the medical faculty of Vienna on 1 January 2004 from the University of Vienna and the simultaneous establishment of the Medical University of Vienna has begun for the young university in a new era. As Austria's largest medical research institution with more than 5,000 employees it presents itself - equipped with modern corporate structure - the international competition and new challenges of medical science.

The Medical University of Vienna is based on three pillars:
Teaching / research / patient care

Thanks to the successful and sometimes groundbreaking research and the implementation of a new medical curriculum (MCW) ultimately benefit every Viennese or Austrian by the work of scientists and doctors at the Medical University of Vienna. With Europe's largest hospital, the General Hospital Vienna (AKH), and several teaching hospitals as partners, the Medical University of Vienna is an important pillar of the Austrian health system.

2000 doctors are available 24 hours a day, the patients are available. The combination of basic research and clinical application (Translational Research) allows you to send for research in clinical trials to patients immediately good. 33 university hospitals treat about 100,000 patients hospitalized each year, 35,000 operations are carried out first aid and 440,000 people.
The organization chart in the Medical University of Vienna center defined structure contributes to improved profile of the University and gives her the chance to continue in Europe and worldwide to take a central role in research and therapy.

By centered research space of approximately 40,000 m2 can now be provided in future medical research excellence: the already leading position of the Medical University of Vienna in allergy and thrombosis research is expanded, the transplant center are added to a lung specialist center, cancer research is breaking new ground with the fruitful marriage of bases and clinical research. Great attention is placed on the brain and metabolic research.

This success and the excellent conditions for research, teaching and patient care make the young university a major factor in the Austrian and European health care system. Thus, it closes again to the exceptional role in medical and scientific point of view in Europe that they had in the past before.
