The University of Agricultural Sciences Vienna, the Alma Mater Viridis, sees itself as a teaching and research facility for renewable resources, which are essential for human life. Task of the BOKU is to contribute crucially on the diversity of their fields to ensure the livelihood of future generations. By combining science, engineering and economics, attempts to increase the knowledge of an ecologically and economically sustainable use of natural resources in a harmonious cultural landscape.

Founded as the College of Agricultural Sciences, BOKU Vienna in 1872, the opening took place on 15 October of that year instead. Work started on Agriculture (1872). 1896, BOKU moved from 8 District in the area around the Türkenschanzpark. The Center for International Relations was founded in the same year, was opened in the Muthgasse I - and 1991st Five years later, the second part, which Muthgasse II, put into service. The various departments of BOKU spread over 18 and 19 District of Vienna, with the two focal points in and around the Muthgasse Türkenschanzpark.
